I used to read in the dark when I was a kid so as not to let my folks know I was awake. I became quite good at it, however it ruined my general eyesight leaving me wearing glasses for most of my life.

As far as the blue eyes go, it is totally possible the boy has the genes for it in him. There is tribes in china that have white/arabic features, think they are called ugars are something.

As we say in Greece, the genes go back either 7 generations or 7 blocks around your House

Pretty useless evolution if you ask me. I mean its neat and all if the story is true, I don't really see how helpful it would be if it become a common trait amongst humans. Being the Farmers, herders, and tech based species we are I don't see it being a particularity big step.

Someone is already engineering superhumans with genes that give them enhanced abilities.

Like...

-See in the dark like the OP posted
-Gills/Lungs like the mudskipper - the ability to breath dissolved O2 from sea water.
-low oxygen survival like a mountain goat
-vision like a eagle
-Camoflage like a squid/octopus
-smell as well as dingo
-Strength like a chimpanzee or gorilla(easier than the rest)
-Endurance like a cheetah(heart,lungs,circulatory system)
-genetic resistance to radiation

Where can this go?

Did you see all the xmen movies too?

Sweet find. This remind me of a darkroom/meditation/shamanic skill that is picked up when one has been exposed to pitch darkness for a couple of months/years; the ability to see everything in time and space without the physical eyes even being open. Also reminds me of lifelong yogic practices that merit one with supernatural abilities and why yogi's never show them off. It will always cause more disbelief than faith in people.

lol... that's funny 7 blocks around your house..lol... Well, i'm mixed and when i was a child i was born with blue eyes and black hair. It wasn't until i started to get older my hair turned brown and my eyes turned green. Now my hair is light brown and my eyes are still green. I find it strange how my hair is turning lighter and lighter. I can see why his dad is concern about his son's difference but wasn't there a myth in china where some of their gods are light skin with blue eyes? maybe this child is a reincarnated god? or maybe it wasn't a myth maybe in the long run certain Chinese families have it in their genes?

Absolutely activation of DNA. I don't know this case in particular, but newest research theories suggest that DNA is changed or activated, and wiki simply states that "junk DNA" is not fully understood.

It reminds me of the Super-Psychic Children of China thread right here on ATS

Edited to add: I have read that the Chinese people credit their super-psychic children to a form of meditation (Qi Gong - I know that is probably spelled wrong) that is common there.

He could be in the third of the Riddick movies.

Quick, get that boy to Hollywood!

better yet.... "quick!!! Someone bring that boy to the US and begin pre-pubescent B.U.D.S. training!!! A navy seal with no need for clunky night vision goggles?!"

but his gift, aside from the eye color, seems to me like he was born with more rod cells than normal humans. which is why he has excellent no/low light vision. I'm actually kinda jealous. I work at night, and if I had that gift, I'd be happy!

This is not evoultion.

It is only mutation. A random natural genetic act amongst a million lives.

Our current science advances had enabled scientists to actually manipulate genes to solve some medical ailments, and experimentations had done on animals, such as glowing rabbits, intelligent rats, etc.

I doubt if that boy had been experimented on, and thus he should not have any man-made genetic manipulation, but only what can be explained away under mainstream science as 'natural mutation of genes' , an anamoly of genetic action within his body.

I wish him a healthy and normal life, and hope that for one mutated trait he gained, he may not lose another that is more precious over time, and also that he not become part of some unethical lab experiment. No matter what, he is still a human being with life.

This is truly amazing.... I was waiting for a shot of him in pure pitch black to see his eyes change color like an animal but believe it or not, I received a brain injury and since then my eyes are very sensitive to light which hurts my eyes so its hard to walk in the daytime especially when the sun is out and the sky is bright blue.

whats different is I could see at night, not pure pitch black but black enough that most people need to turn on the lights to see whats around them. I usually do a lot of things in the dark (call me weird if you want) I brush my teeth with the lights off and the other thing lol or walk in the house with the lights off, I could make out text in books (although not everything) and so on.

So this is amazing to me to be born with it and with my issue from what had happen I lost and gain a few abilities so i really do believe we have so many things that are unlocked in our DNA and brain to do things that we could do that seem impossible like things you would see in a movie.

By the way there was a thread linking to a news article with people who suffered from brain injures to do things that they never done and gain really super amazing abilities.

Lol @ the eurocentric comments! Asia is one huge mass China shares with neighboring Mongolia, Uzbekistan, Uyghur, Turkmenistan etc etc all which have significant doses of the recessive light-eye alleles. All dominant gives you blackish eyes, mostly dominant gives you brown eyes to reduce glare and solar damage, a mix of dominant and recessive eyecolor alleles gives you greens, hazels and mostly or all recessive eyecolor alleles are the rarest because of the photosensitivity and give blues and pale greys. Both parents contributed recessive mongolian(?) genes and presto this kid got some very blue eyes. Notice blue is opposite of red so in very dark settings his eyes are making use of what little infra-Red to see just like we all can to some extent, in the dark (depends alot on retinoids in our diet as well as age).

So, aside from them photoshoping his pupils to look feline, what's the mystery??

It wasn't me, i have only been in china a few years and am willing to be tested for my DNA to prove i didn't do the kids mom (yet)

I need to read this from a source more credible than "The Sun". I did a search, and when it is mentioned elsewhere, they are citing their source as the Sun's website.

If this was true the kid would first be sent to highly trained specialists, the Chinese government wouldn't hesitate to find how this kid can see in the dark and unlock the secret, from there many more secrets can be unlocked. I'm reluctant to believe it, I think it is just rumors, the rumors have spread most likely because of his rare blue eyes in the Chinese community.

Even Americans, Brits and other nations around the world would be dearly interests in this kid and would want to invite him to go to their host nation and be tested, if this story was true. I'm going to wait and see, just a little skeptical at the moment.
