I just wanted to open this discussion up here. As someone who makes their living off music I felt I should share this info.
Please watch this short video - it explains the problem wonderfully and is very short:

not sure if i did the youtube link right, so: heres weblink

**i urge you to watch the video above**

In short, MegaUpload is owned by 'Swizz Beatz', who is Alicia Keys husband. Kanye West, Wil.i.Am, and others (including kardashians), own a piece of MegaUpload. Take a look this this video:

Where The MegaUpload Money Goes

So, you see - even in the music world, there is a 1%. Or in this case a 0.0001%. Kanye West is about as punk rock as the CEO's of Enron.
Or to quote The Who, "meet the new boss, same as the old boss".

Don't be confused here folks, MegaUploads death has *nothing* to do with SOPA, PIPA, or online censorship. Let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater.
cheers.

Hmmm...this thread from late last year is interesting:

Megaupload to Sue Universal, Joins Fight Against SOPA

File-hosting service Megaupload has told TorrentFreak that it will sue Universal for wrongfully taking down its content from YouTube. Universal took action Friday to remove a Megaupload-produced pop video which featured leading artists singing the cyberlocker service’s praises. The move has also prompted the company to enter the SOPA debate, with a call for like-minded people to join forces and fight for an Internet without censorship.

But whatever Universal’s motivations for the takedowns were, according to Megaupload founder Kim Dotcom the label will now have to justify their actions in court. TorrentFreak can confirm that Mega’s legal team have already been instructed to sue Universal over the illegitimate copyright takedown of the Mega Song, an act which Kim says was an attempt to sabotage their viral campaign.

The plot thickens...

You are correct, Swizz Beatz Was Not Megaupload CEO.

However it's easy to see why people are confused:
Remember how bizarre that Megaupload song/video was? We have now learned that the man behind all this is none other that Swizz Beatz. That’s right. The New York Post is calling Swizz Beatz the CEO of Megaupload. The story is that Swizz got Diddy, Kanye West, and Will.i.am in trouble with their label after they supported Megaupload in the bizarre commercial I just spoke about. Universal Music Group issued YouTube a “take down notice” claiming that the artists’ performances were unauthorized. Swizz and Megaupload then fired back with a lawsuit. A rep for the company tells the NY Post that, “We have never received any word that any artist has [individually] filed a take-down . . . [we have] legally binding agreements with the performers that appear in the video . . . They promised that they had the rights to enter into that agreement and it’s not interfering with any third-party rights.”
