With all due respect to the OP, Vitchello, on this topic HR 1981 "The Protecting Children from Internet Pornographer's Act" was introduced into the House on May 25, 2011 according to GovTrack.us LINK. Taking this into consideration this is NOT SOPA Re-Deux, as SOPA (HR 3261) was introduced on October 26, 2011 LINK.

I think it is important that in a debate of such a potentially damning bill as SOPA we compare apples to apples and in saying that please do not mistake my position on SOPA as I feel it is right up there with the Patriot Act as one of the most disgusting pieces of legislation to come down the pike. Do I feel that elements of SOPA could be rolled into the "Protecting Children from Internet Pornographer's Act".... sure. I would not put anything past our current group of scumbags currently in office. It would only be an act of self preservation on their side to do so. "Don't like SOPA huh, well, we can fix that. We'll just roll the most nefarious aspects of SOPA into a bill that no one would dare stand up against lest they look like worse scumbags than they already are".

(It may even be made available in civil matters like divorce trials or child custody battles.)

I could see women everywhere surfing for Child Porn on their husbands computer, just to frame him so they can overwhelmingly win divorce battles and child custody hearings, as if they need any help. If this passes men......make an account for yourself and one for your wife and DO NOT let them access your account in any way. These days trusting your wife is assured demise for you, because they have more to gain from your downfall, than staying with you, thanks to affirmative action. This child porn thing, certainly has to stop, but at the same time, the creeps that do this....if they know of this bill, they are just going to find a different way of doing it and then it will be nothing left but innocent men getting framed by their wives in divorce court. Men lock those accounts on your computer. This post is attributable to this topic discussed here. So please don't delete it. Seems like everything I write anymore on here gets deleted by a certain MOD that doesn't seem to like what I say. It's almost harassing. Geez.

Thank God i am not American nor live in America... I feel sorry for all of you...But until you wake up, there is not much you can do. Still, it will probably be a matter of time before this disease spreads to all the countries in the world. If that happens, i will go underground...

It is funny to see how you all have been manipulated since the late 70s... Your society is about FEAR THIS, FEAR THAT, then, because of the fear, SHOOT THIS, BOMB THAT.

I sincerely pity you all... I hope you can turn it around before it is too late, i have my doubts...

This is just getting pathetic, someone plant some kiddie porn on this Lamars computer please... Or just get rid of him the old fashion way.
Sorry to say but this travesty signals the very downfall of the free speech you hold so dear, and the utter failure of your pathetic hippie non-violent protests.

Actually, there is more truth in what you are saying that what you are probably realizing...
It will be a trivial thing to frame someone... Can you see the lid on the pandora's box opening?

Woman would be as prone to this as men.It is not as if it is not known that woman do participate in sexual child abuse just like men.We are talking about humans here ,men and woman alike. everyone will be affected and everyone is targeted.

This is sickening how they can name bills like this so that it makes it impossible to vote against it without being labeled a "pedophile" or someone who doesn't support children. These people are seriously sick.

Next up, the Protect Innocent Kittens From Torture and Terrorism Act, and it will be all about enabling the govt to install cameras in our homes and monitor us 24/7. To make sure we're not torturing kittens, or being terrorists, of course. You're a sadistic animal abuser who doesn't love America if you vote against it!

Anyone who decries something as "being for the children" should be hit over the head repeatedly with a hammer until such stupid comments dribble out of the talk hole.

AHHHGGGG!!!!!
Government, get out of our lives.

Hey, how about you balance the budget instead of wasting time on this crap.

What I guess you don't understand is the entire reason they are passing these bills is because they can't balance the budget without economic collapse and they know it.

They want control over the internet for when the collapse happens, they want to know who their enemies are, and they want to destroy their means of organization/communication. This will be passed one way or another, because they are very motivated.

However it is very easy to beat provided you buy a VPN service from a provider in another country. In that case the IP logged by ATS will point to the VPN proxy provider in another country. Unless your country's authorities have as much free access to the records, if any, maintained by the VPN provider you identity will remain a secret.

yes they couldnt match up the words to the person.
however they will see that you as an individual is using a vpn from another country, and that alone will make you a target. and since we already (soon) dont have any privacy rights online, they will just as well manually look into you instead of the convenient way.

in a martial law / internet martial law situation. i would prefer not to raise suspicion of myself to begin with, more so if i was doing it out of protest and not even doing anything illegal.

next we will see, is a bill or amendment that will link the usage of proxies to the expateration act.
done deal

How about this for a novel idea:

All the money we spend on the failed drug war could be spent on finding and prosecuting pedophiles.

Yes, thank you....we have all heard from many others who have judged us as well.Every piece of hate and pity helps us, as American's, to better ourselves, so keep 'em coming. I will punctually forward your note of compunction to the proper political figures to which it should have been addressed to in the first place. We have all heard how ignorant we Americans are, for the things our tyrannical government has done in our name, and assure you, once we all "wake up" and when each and everyone of us become congressmen and Presidents with more money than we can handle, we will then see the errors of our ways and stop doing......whatever it is that we 'the American people' have done......(personally) to be so hated. Indeed, we should much less ignorant, like those who judge us for the crimes of a corrupt political regime. When we "wake up" then we can judge other nations and their populace for the crimes their gov't does in their names and then be better than everyone else too.

I personally hated waking up in the morning, eating breakfast, and instead of going to work and trying to make a dollar (that the gov't would take 50% of anyway).....I still hated having to go to work and then pull my second job, getting in my personal plane and flying over to Afghanistan and Iraq and other strategic vacation spots,....and dropping bombs on women and children. We the American people should be so ashamed of ourselves. And to wonder why people hate us so much. I should really just keep the one job I have, make it rich and buy the whole world flowers....maybe they will love us then.

Go ahead and delete it mod, If only a few people read what i say before my posts get deleted....it was worth it to defend American working people from ignorant, judgemental do-gooders. My posts get deleted on here so much I am beginning to feel like Ron Paul.

I haven't read all the other comments so, forgive me if I'm restating something that someone else has already said but, in this event it's really important to educate others what this is about. It's like Helen Lovejoy from the Simpsons who throws "Think of the Children!" at everything. We can think of the children and not take down the whole internet with it.

Hey, government people, I'll just give you a list of the porn sites and other embarrassing things I look at while on the net, will you leave me alone now?

That is how our political system works. Throw in a few scary sounding buzzwords like terrorist and pedophile and people wont pay attention to anything else.

I could actually support such a proposed bill, provided that they enact the "Protecting Children from Catholic Priests and Football Coaches Bill" first.

I bet there will be a false flag to get this through. One way or another they are gonna try to rob us of a free uncensored internet.

Just let anonymous handle it...they did a pretty good job at outing the emails of the people viewing it and DDoS to shut down some sites recently.

You said what I was thinking. Anonymous shut down child pornographers with no government bill whatsoever. Maybe the sponsor of this bill needs to be told about it?

You are assuming that IP = person. IP only resolves an address. Anyone at that address would then be suspect. From my IP anyone can connect online and do whatever they please. I have open wi-fi just for that.

I am not assuming that IP=person. But a public IP/private IP combination uniquely identifies a computer/device at any givern time. Assuming there is only one person on that computer at that time, it points to a person.

But yes, if you are on a private network, the ISP can at best point to the router that had the public IP at that point of time. If that router is owned by an individual, as far as the law is concerned the matter ends there and that person becomes responsible.

If however it is owned by an organisation that does not keep logs of who had what private ip at what time and what external servers were accessed from different private IPs they may need to force them to do that as well and perhaps this law itself will cover the scenario. Cafes and such places that provide free wi-fi access may have change the service to a different mode where the user has to identify himself to the network before getting access.

Yes, it is possible to make a law that compels all kinds of ISPs to record activties. But as I pointed out, unless they can make it illegal to connect to VPN servers outside (effectively blocking access to all such services outside the country) such a law is easily bypassed by paying a little for such service.

I wonder just how deeply the Record and Movie industry is into Lamar's pockets and reelection funding? The man is on a crusade I really question the motivations for at this point.

Wonder no more. Lamar Smith's biggest contributor in the 2011-2012 campaign was: surprise, surprise - CC Media Holdings, Inc., the parent company of Clear Channel Communications, Inc. with $18,300 in donations. The Recording Industry Assn. of America also donated $5,000 in 2012.

Interestingly, Time Warner Cable donated $5,000, National Cable & Telecommunications Assn, $5,000, Comcast Corp., $5000, and Google Inc, $7,000

Source

The TV/Movies/Music industry is his biggest contributor in 2012 with $60,800

He seems to be very popular with liquor makers and distributors also. I'm expecting that he'll be introducing a bill to protect liquor sales any time now.
