Lamar is just a tool, bribed in order to be perpetually reelected like most politicians these days. Let him know we know what he's up to with a friendly email (not threats) and don't forget to post his name & picture all over along with what he is responsible for.

Boycott CNN, NBC and any others that support these bills.

Quit subscribing to cable television and use the Internet or rent the dollar videos if you have to.

It is pretty obvious what he is trying to (read: being payed to) do. His biggest campaign contributor is CC Media Holdings.

Amazing how far these cretins are willing to go to halt the one medium they cannot completely control.
This is scary stuff, but I bet they are more scared than we.

"childporn" and "terrorism" The most powerful words that those with unsatiable hunger for power have ever invented.

Once its precedence, then expand on it.
So..who is this bill really aimed at? The people swapping around kiddy stuff hide themselves anyhow, so its not like they are going to be caught..what are they really trying to accomplish is the question.

Add to that the fact that most of that stuff is hosted on Russian sites... Most of it behind passwords and cryptography.

Who the hell is he kidding? This is about "thought-police" no more, no less.
The speed by which the ordinary Joe&Jill can check the lies and misleading statements of those in power/those puppeteered by those in power, scares them to death.

They know their game is up, and are currently in a state of shock, desperately clawing at the power that is slipping through their fingers like dry fech-fech (very powdery sand). They're carrion-eaters that realize their prey is getting up again and getting away.

The internet is the first truly democratic institution éver, and as such is -as far as TPTB are concerned- Satan himself, something to be loathed and feared.

It's the dangerously violent death cries and convulsions of a class of creatures (do not call them "human") that know, deep inside, their reign has run it's course and they became superfluous.

Just wait for it: War with Iran will be the first big, bloody attempt to take our -the internet-users- eye off the ball.
Problem is, in their arrogance, they do not understand that they have already been exposed.

Rephrasing this overarching control over the Internet under the name of protecting children just shows how manipulative politicians like Rep. Lamar Smith could be.

They must really think none of us common folk are watching.

There's a clear strong desire to control the Internet. If it were to protect children, it would've been done ten years ago... and besides, the FBI (and Dateline) does a damn good job finding and imprisoning the victimizers of children. This new bill, just like SOPA and PIPA, is about controlling the masses by allowing or disallowing certain types of idea communication.

It's funny because you'd have a lot of fun trying to find child porn on the WWW anyways, I don't think anyone is that stupid to put it on the WWW because it's so easy to track, they need to find a way to go after the people on the deep web, which is where the real criminals are, drug markets, hitmen, etc. if you don't know what the 'deep web' is then look it up here on ATS, I don't reccomend going on it though, a lot of scary stuff on there.

seems like lamar only wants government to have computers and internet access. does lamar not realize that in a totalitarian system innovation dries up. the common folk will have no impetus other than to just do what they have to to survive. lamar and the rest of dc do not see the big picture that when america goes completely 3rd world we will no longer be of use to the big corporations and then we will be even more expendable.

I bet there will be a false flag to get this through. One way or another they are gonna try to rob us of a free uncensored internet.

Just let anonymous handle it...they did a pretty good job at outing the emails of the people viewing it and DDoS to shut down some sites recently.

Let Anonymous handle it, really? With the way Anonymous is quick to attack the US Gov is using it as a way to say "see how out of control these people are with their internet? they must be stopped" It's only adding fuel to the fire instead

I just emailed my Congressman as he was on your list.
Basically, I just told him that although I am a believer in 'if you aren't doing anything wrong, you have nothing to worry about' (I don't, but he's Republican), this bill would lead to potential violation of our 4th Amendment, 5th Amendment and 1st Amendment rights.

There was a time when Americans treasured their privacy! If you read this bill you will quickly see that is has nothing to do with kiddy porn. It has to do with keeping an eye on every single thing you do on the internet! Your ISP will be required to keep a record of all your internet activity and provide this information to government officials with no warrant or due process whatsoever.

Its draconian plain and simple. I never thought I would live to see a world like Orwell’s 1984 but we creep closer and closer everyday! There is also some provision that says they will take your kid for 3 years or until they are 18 if your internet activity is deemed to be a danger! With no due process or even an accusation of a crime under this legislation I would say this is downright dangerous!

This is worse than SOPA friends!

THIS MUST BE STOPPED! This is a declaration of war against our Constitutional law and values! This legislation must be exposed for what it really is!

As Americans we must face Tyranny head on and with all of our might! If our democratic systems fail us we must rewrite and ratify the peoples rule of law!

I pray we can find the same footing to defeat this legislation as we found with SOPA! We must expose this legislation for what it is and have guise of keeping kids safe BS be seen for what it is! All those who support such legislation should be dumped as soon as possible as well!

Just For Your Information as this has a link with SOPA.

The UK has just signed an international treaty (26/1/2012) which activists say amounts to internet censorship.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk's government signed the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement in Tokyo today. It's funny that the BBC news has no mention of that fact.

17 hours ago this was the only report on the BBC News website.

"Thousands march in Poland over Acta internet treaty.

The government says protesters will have their say before the treaty is ratified in Poland.

Polish sites hit in Acta attack Battle over global anti-counterfeit treaty. Thousands of protesters have taken to Poland's streets over the signing of an international treaty activists say amounts to internet censorship."

See article: www.bbc.co.uk...

It concludes towards the end of the article:

"Poland was one of several European Union countries, including Finland, France, Ireland, Italy, Portugal, Romania and Greece, to sign the treaty on Thursday but it appeared to be the only place where it caused protest.

The agreement was signed by the US, Australia, Canada, Japan, Morocco, New Zealand, Singapore and South Korea last year."

What is scary is that I didn't know the UK had signed ACTA treaty even though I live in London. I wonder how many others are in the same boat as me.

Seems US signed up last year.

Rep. Smith is a taint on the city of San Antonio. His district is so heavily gerrymandered there can be no effective opponent. He has spent his career attacking free speech and attempting to strengthen a police state. This new bill is disgusting (as was SOPA and PROTECT IP).

But more people are waking up the shenanigans. Let's keep the pressure on.
