Cheating is a lot easier than actually teaching students valuable knowledge.

I heard they had cheating parties!

They sure did.

What a fantastic turn of events for the teachers.
I am so glad to see that the Union bullied their way in to getting those poor teachers and administrators their hard earned bonuses back.
It takes alot of effort in cheating not only the tax payer, but the children as well.
Hurray Atlanta Education System.

What a crock.

Because the issue was as follows:
The school, with concerted effort between the teachers and Administrators, had the ability to receive extra funding and Bonuses if the schools exceeded testing/learning levels set.
The teachers/admin chose that instead of working to teach, they provided the students the answers to the tests and even hosted "cheating parties".

They should have the not only the bonuses and extra funding pulled again, but their salaries for that year and handed a pink slip.

Besides, throwing money at a problem has yet to produce results.
So, throwing more money will?
No.

There's nothing at all in the article about unions in any capacity - where did you get this from?

You'd have to pay them more in order for that to work. Pay cheap get crap.

An easy way to fix the educational void would be to open up the field by making it TESTING related and not degree related. The higher you score the more you get paid. Period. For example, I have an Associate's degree in Network Security and a handful of lower level certs. Within a year I will have a Bachelor's in Environmental Science (Remediation). Louisiana Tech canceled Geology as a minor, but with the electives I'll have another degree in Geology with a semester's worth of work. I have been in school off and on for the past twelve years. Heck, I got to within a semester of being an RN before I gave it up for personal reasons. I couldn't get a job teaching if I tried. Most places won't even look at you unless you've got a bachelor's in education...in some places Master's level.

That is beyond ridiculous. I could teach awesome science classes and I'm reasonably sure I could teach literature. Plus, I'm a big kid at heart enough to where I guarantee I could inspire a future scientist. My chemistry/physics teacher and I (as a class group) blew up a lab sink. We made a manned hovercraft out of a leafblower that took out half the dance team at a pep rally. But you know what? I learned more from that one guy than any ten of my previous teachers. Knowledge isn't squat. You have to have the ability to inspire kids to want to learn. Lack that, you're talking to a brick wall.

Do you think that the teachers and admin were not backed by the Educators Union?
Critical thinking needs to be applied.

And what does the rich's tax bracket have anything to do with Teachers and Administrators Cheating and providing answers to the student to boost scores?

I'm not entirely following the point your making here...but if you're trying to use the educational issue as an excuse to rant about rich people...I'd note something very important here. On a per pupil basis and per capita basis, the United States ranks near the TOP in the World for Education funding. Despite that, the United States ranks near DEAD LAST among industrialized Western nations for education levels of the people graduating from public schools.

So... The idea that money spent has ANY relation to outcomes achieved seems to be put solidly down as total crap on a daily basis. It isn't like we've have the warped ratio as a new thing...it's been this way in America for a LONG time now. We spend more and more and get less and less in return. Of course the Teachers get their raises, like clock work, regularly...but the kids it's ALL FOR get shafted year in and year out.

Money isn't the answer and the rich have NOTHING to do with why our schools are among the worst on Earth within those nations capable of having the very best of everything.

On another note... Private schools just FIRE Teachers who can't cut it or don't have what it takes to be a leader of kids....as it SHOULD BE. Just my personal thoughts....but I believe the totally absurd lengths it takes to throw out Educators who are just incapable of doing the job is a LARGE part of why we have schools that can't teach and graduating students who can barely complete a resume without extensive help or remedial training.

Actually, the U.S. is #37 in terms of how much of our GDP we spend on education. And as of education quality, I'd say it's pretty low. I went to a U.S. high school, and found it to be a system of tinpot dictators masquerading as tutors. The system is built that way, to keep the poor undereducated and subservient, and the rich can send their own to private school.
In American History, they teach you a version of the founding of the nation where every man is a godlike figure of incorruptible character, and how every founding father was flawless, when quite a few were bigot slave owners. They gloss over the treatment of the American Indians. In regards to the Civil War, they say it was entirely based around slavery when a lot of the reasoning for secession was because of the conflict between federal powers and state powers. When they get to the 1900s, they go over WW1, the Roaring Twenties, Great Depression, and WW2.
They do not go over the way big business crushed the unions, the horrible working conditions for the average man in the city.
They whitewash it, and try to make everyone into complacent sheep. They do this on purpose. It is the way the system is designed to be.
