the problem with staining is that you have to spend a lot more time preparing slides. Sort of take the fun out of the microscopy.


I've been toying with stains lately - those designed to stain cells and found that such stains work quite well on larger objects as well. A bit of phenol red or malachite green on say, strands of turkey meat (at lower power) will reveal beautiful textures that remained hidden in standard light.

Anyway, my thanks to all for helping identify what was occurring in my milk sample and for the great links and tips for microscopy!
