We had a bit of a storm here in Mandurah today... Been in this area for 25yrs and ive never seen something like this.

We're used to the occasional cock-eyed-bob.. massive hail downpours and the strong winded thunder storm now and then..but todays storm was freakish..

4 people were admitted to hopsital having been injured from lightning.. all 4 were seperate instances.

This storm rolled over in the early am, and the light show was incredible.

According to officials we recieved over 2000 lightning strikes within a 30 km area.

It was intense.. scary.. and like nothing ive seen in the 25yrs ive been in the area.

Im not saying it has anything to do with anything.. but i couldnt stop thinking how it was so close to the scene in war of the worlds. that intense.

Below are some pictures locals took..

Those are some awesome pictures. The weather has been nutty all around the world lately. Late october we got hit with over a foot of heavy, wet snow here in the northeast usa. Not normal for that time of year. Lost power for 2.5 days, so many tress and power lines came down.
However, it has been so mild since and up to this point for the 1st month of winter, and from what they are forcasting it is supposed to be back up in the 40's next month!

I was up last night watching this. I thought the same thing about War of the Worlds.

I was only watching for about 30minutes. But there was a lightning strike literally almost every single second, and in such a relatively small area.

It was a good show. Sucks for those that got hit.

Didn't come south enough to reach me, not even a rumble!

Here's the lightning strike map for the last 24 hours:

S&F For the Photos

I am wondering if you were recording it video how would it look. It is usually much more dramatic. But if you say is strange for the area then I believe it. I am currently in Romania I am visiting every year in January and I have to say it has never been this warm.

I was talking with people here and they say is strange.

We also had incredible wind storms unusual for this time a year.

Anyway your photos are beautiful

I live in Mandurah and saw the light show from my balcony, there seemed to me to be a lot of lightning actually inside the cloud bank and not strike the ground which I thought was weird for here.

My area has regular thunderstorms, but storms like that are very rare. I've seen only one in my life that was like that or comparable to that one.

I think the thing that scares me most is lightening. These pictures have brought that fear to a new level.
