From the dogfighting thread... (but got no comments... trying with a new subject)

www.canit.se...

"A unique feature is the coupling of the radar gunsighting mode to the autopilot, introduced with Edit 32. When the pilot places a target in a capture window, the autopilot takes over pitch and yaw, and presents bank information on the HUD for the pilot to follow. Even if it's not followed, the pitch and yaw channels have enough authority to precision aim the cannon, reducing pilot workload letting him or her concentrate on tactics and situational awareness. "

Does other fighters have this too?
I have not even seen it in a game simulator...

Pretty cool development. It was only a matter of time in fly by wire a/c.

That reminds me of line from Full Metal Jacket:

Joker: How can you shoot women and children?
Door Gunner: Easy, you just don't lead them as much.

Yea, but note that further down in the referenced page
"Edit 32, in 1993, mainly introduced advances in the flight control system and radar."

So, it is pretty old by now...

Automatic ground and air collision avoidance is the new stuff

The Gripen pilot if under huge g-loads can easily blackout and still score a kill while he/she is unconscious.

Su-25T can do this too. And because that plane is a peice of crap, I don't think it's THAT impressive.

Why?

It is better than the much fabled A-10 at its job...

I don't like either but I guess "low tech" will substitute for "peice of crap". I guess it doesn't compare to gripen as the Su-25 can have gun pods that can aim downwards therefore the autopilot only has to overfly the target, not aim at it.

Anyway, it appears I've used up all my room mates internet bandwidth, so I'm not allowed on now.... Won't post for about a month (going on holidays too).

Night.
