ICONIC US photo-equipment maker Eastman Kodak said today that the company and its US subsidiaries have filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The firm said the move “is intended to bolster liquidity in the US and abroad, monetize non-strategic intellectual property, fairly resolve legacy liabilities, and enable the company to focus on its most valuable business lines.”

Well,It seems that another legacy of last century is fallen to the digital era,
I heard this on the news tonight and they were saying that fifteen years ago
Kodak was worth 30 Billion and now they are worth 150 million.

Kind of ironic that Kodak were early pioneers on the digital camera and now
that they are a part of everyday life the company that bought them to the mainstream
have had got to this place because of them.

I still have some family photos with the Kodak logo printed on the back.

I'ts time to move on to holographic cellphones that can play all the latest games and movies on a 8" HD flexible organic touchpad that can also power our new hovercrafts.

I'm serious.

i'm a bit of a nostalgic...

So I find this moderately depressing in a tiny fraction of the meaning...

Oh well guess I made the right decision in NOT buy that Kodak photo printer that was supposed to be cheaper than other printers... yay for me

Thanks for sharing!

But mr10k, Those holophones are so like, five minutes ago, The latest and greatest,
Is the Borkatron Neuralimplant 3000, controls your whole existence from go to whoa and
has an optional pasta roller.

I'm not serious...

But really, I wonder how long it will be before we get threads on here talking about the good old
days when we read a paper book and manually drove our cars?...

Evolution is sad sometimes. Doesn´t change the fact that it is necessary. And i am sure those Kodak people will survive anyway, many of them probably set for the rest of their lifes thanks to their contribution to society.

This is a real blow to Rochester, NY where Kodak is headquartered. At one time the employed around 80,000 people, my brother included.
All these industrial Northern cities are going down the tubes.
Very sad to see.

Any well known name I grew up with hitting the kerb is quite depressing and I'm not the only one, even OH choked on his coffee last night when he heard the news.
Mind you, I'm still reeling from Woolworths going tits up.
