Hollywood threatens Obama over SOPA

rt.com

Although Obama has won the favor of much of Silicon Valley by striking down SOPA for now, downstate in the Hollywood Hills, executives are furious that the president has put his foot down on the legislation, potentially allowing for the sharing and pirating of films to continue endlessly.

In Los Angeles, execs are fearful of the consequences and are revoking their support. For Obama’s re-election campaign, that could be one big dent in his 2012 fundraising efforts out west.

Whoops!

This really is war folks! And, Obama and the Democrat Party is stuck squarely in the line of fire.

It being a Presidential election year, the juggling is becoming unmanageable.

On the one hand, you need votes from PEOPLE. The public has gotten very vocal about our internet being limited and thus Obama has watered down the SOPA bill.

On the other hand, Hollywood's elite are major Obama campaign and Democratic Party donors and, in an election year, you don't want to tick off your major donors - you need their MONEY to run a campaign.

Among those that are at the top of the donor list are DreamWorks CEO Jeffrey Katzenerg, who personally has raised more than $500,000 for Obama’s re-election so far and has contributed $2 million to a super PAC with similar viewpoints.

the total amount of money handed over to the Democrats on the list of supporters of the act from special interests favoring SOPA amounts to more than $7 million. Anti-SOPA lobbyists, in comparison, have only contributed $807,502 to those very same Democrats.

“God knows how much money we’ve given to Obama and the Democrats and yet they’re not supporting our interests,” another anonymous Hollywood insider tells Deadline. “There’s been no greater supporters of him than we’ve been from the first day and the first fundraisers continuing until he was elected. We all were pleased. And, at its heart institutionally, Hollywood supports the Democrats. Now we need the administration to support us. This is a very important time for Hollywood.”

“We just feel very let down by the administration and Obama for not supporting us,” one anonymous movie exec tells the Hollywood-geared website Deadline.

Another executive, who is identified only as a well known movie mogul and a supporter of the administration until now adds, “At least let him remain neutral and not go against it until we can get the legislation right. But Obama went against it. I’m personally not going to support him anymore and not give a dime anymore.”

They DO NOT need SOPA.

www.abovetopsecret.com...

Nuff said?

No need to change a thing, just enforce existing laws, and go after the criminals.

I cannot help but think this is an extremely tough decision for Obama. I doubt he actually cares about the bill itself, but rather about which stance will save him the most in donations. There are donors on both sides of the issue, so I assume it is just a matter of calculating which stance would give the biggest financial blow to his campaign, and then doing the opposite.

the outcome of this will show just how corrupt the government is . obama will not loose hollywood he just cant take that risk he is on the rocks enough already and when he enforces sopa because of hollywood it will show just how big an influence these corperations have and hopefully the people will rebel so ib the long haul sopa might not be so bad ( as long as it opens the peoples eyes to all the corruption and greed)

You got it. They want a magic law that doesn't need enforcing at the personal level, a mass-punishment law.

Please. Obama supports SOPA. He just says he's opposed to it because it gets him votes. But he would sign it 110% if it came to his desk.

You're right.. No need to change the laws.. Go after the pirates if that's what they are trying to do.
However, no matter what legal changes there are, there will always be pirates out there, illegal downloads happening. It won't stop anything.

of hpllywood wants to fight losing money to piracy here are a few suggestions. number one do not early release movies overseas before American release thor was released overseas and there was dvd quality bootlegs for weeks before its us release. in high risk bootleg areas post your own security at theaters to stop cam recording.
3 when you catch convenience stores selling bootlegs inform ice, 4 leave internet alone or you will piss off fans

Cry me a river Hollywood, then make a crappy movie out of it no one wants to pay for.

If Hollywood disappeared tomorrow this nation would be better off. Matter of fact, why not use all the money we save from making thousands of crappy movies and paying idiots millions of dollars for reciting scripts on screen and use it to refurbish some of those old factories in Detroit. Hollywood has destroyed enough cars for stupid reasons now why not make up for it?

Sorry Hollywood, we can't afford your crap anymore, find a new job.

You have to understand that these people have alot of power and influence because their filthy rich. SOPA would make them filthy RICHER and thats what they want, its like their saying sure we have all the money in the world, but we could have all the money in the universe if the obama just passes our bill!

It's obvious that Hollywood is only seeing what they want to see........the prospect of more revenue.
Hollywood has not done its homework when it comes to the issue. Piracy will not magically disappear, leading to larger profits by artists etc...... As stated above, we have existing laws which limit these practices.

SOPA does nothing but destroy the beauty that is the internet. Perhaps some of these Hollywood types should research different aspects of how the internet works and how there are multiple ways to do things without throwing the baby out with the bathwater. IP addresses can be entered into address bars, Hollywood. Please do not be so focused on illegal downloads that you lose sight of what's actually at stake. Find out what's in the bill and use your brain.

Its time to put the BLAME where it belongs, the People who wrote and co-sponsered this bill, and ask why kill off ideas, the right to protect the works, on the internet, its easy to steal, like the credit card companys who use inmates to make collection calls, on your pass due accounts, yes inmates with card numbers, phone numbers, so when they get out they have a chance to steal your life, Via a credit card thanks to the mass amounts of people still asleep.
