If you don't want to be pirating music and such -- at least stop buying it. Get it used or rent it at Red Box. If companies are going to lobby congress and get the FBI to support a failing business model stop giving them enough spare change to keep it going.

People these days have no friggin clue. They rage all day against powerful lobbies like Israel, big oil and corporations and more, yet dont harness the same power those groups do. Lobby groups can be the bane of your existance or your savior. Do something productive, form a group and lobby the sh*t out of Washington. Political pressure ftw.

I don't think these attacks will have a significant impact. Here's what we do if we wan't things to work in our favor. Say SOPA actually passes and ruins everything. Everyone just drop your deal with your ISP and say "No thank you."
If enough people we're to do this, I believe a resolution in our favor would work. But I don't think people could ever do it, we love our internet too much.

I am tired of hearing about how Anonymous "takes down" this website and that website. That might work temporarily for companies that depend on those sites for commerce, but they'll just pull a backup and restore things to normal. That's about like finding out a pedophile down the street victimized your own child, then going down there and throwing a glass of water in his face to get revenge. Oooh, mean.

How about Anonymous hacks into entire government intranets and releases classified information? How about they shut down power grids as an act of retribution? Maybe the DC power grid? Screwing with website hosting here and there isn't much of a trick.

I highly doubt anything was downloaded, but you can open Task Manager and check every running process & service against what you're knowingly running, like your browser, and ones operating your OS. If something is suspect, double-check online if it should be there. If it shouldn't, write down the name, kill it through the "end process" right-click option, and then find it & scrub it manually. Back up your system first, just in case you're wrong. You don't want to accidentally remove something crucial to the system. BTDT, a coronary ensued Backing up your system is a must, I can't stress it enough if you're going to seek out & remove things yourself.

EDIT: Of course, you could always just download something like SpyBot or AVG Anti Virus. If you do, Cnet's download section is handy for that. Forgot to mention this first, when I should have. I've still had to go the DIY route several times over the past 15+ years because sometimes some things simply slip through the cracks. I've had to chase down & remove trojans and worms that AV programs missed. It's always good to know you can still remove them manually if need be it.

I don't think you have anything to worry about, I followed the FB link to group called Black March, which is just basically calling for making zero media/entertainment purchases throughout the entire month of March to give the entertainment industry the proverbial finger. I "liked" the group, and will do my part to tell the industry where to stick it

Actually no, and frankly I should have. I understand why this is buried by the media, but as a consumer of alternative news, I still did not hear about this.

At least they are doing things that are having an effect, but it still needs to be bigger and more damaging. I'd really like to see them stop playing and take the gloves off. We're way too far down the road to total control to wait any longer.

They've done more than you realize. Have a look at the link I posted above - they took down the Bivings Group website - a company which has been operating for years, and a week or 2 later that same company closed its doors. I highly doubt that's a coincidence, they clearly had something to hide.

Their list is quite long. And they have targeted many corrupt people.

Might not even be Anon. Once they create an enemy they can do the hacking themselves, and claim it was Anon.

It shows you how anon was started, why it was, and everything they have done over the years and what they still continue to do. for instance does many people know that anonymous were avid supporters of the OWs movement? that they fought against Scientology? take a look at the links - anonymous is not 1 person its hundreds of people world wide, to some they are bad to some good.

Why don't they attack child porn sites and anonymous sites like [link removed] where there are a lot minors talking with perverts and paedophiles instead of attacking and hacking government websites? If they really cared about society, they wouldn't have left a child porn site intact. But they are hypoctites.

thats just a couple of links, as iv said before they are not just about hackin/ddosing the gov, its a lot more than that, check my thread i linked in above post.

Many of the group have twitter which seems to be the main news source for them, they tend to categorise everything they do on there, there's also different factions of it as they message each other. they also have regular Q &A time were u can message them questions, They also have a specific board were they hang out.

believe it or not anon members are on this board, they are everywhere, as i said anyone can be anonymous - its not just 1 rogue group of people.

Ok, so they do a little more than I thought (excluding the PS3 servers...what good did that do other than piss off their own fan base, nerds and gamers! )

But really now, I still haven't seen anything beneficial that has came from Anom. At least release some cool stuff....not peoples personal account info....how childish.

Im definitely pro-anonymous. Im glad they took a stand and made a move on the website. I also have my own theories thow believing that anonymous is really undercover feds and that its not what we think it is. But hey thats just my paranoid dillusional mind set.
