Just wondering...
What issues are you passionate about and what makes you a conservative?
Well, both conservative and labour are to slightly to the left of the democrats in the UK These days, particularly since Blair pulled Labour more
towards the centre and adopted many traditionally conservative positions, there isn't all that much between them.
The biggest issue I guess is Europe. I get the feeling the Labour party is trying to regulate everything too much, and seems more concerned with
bringing UK policy and laws in line with the rest of Europe, rather than responding to what UK people actually want.
the other issue I AM pretty passionate about is the maintenance of the British political system in general. Labour are making too many changes for my
liking, and Blair in particular is acting a little too presidential.
Other, than that, it comes down to relatively minor details concerning education (conservatives prefer more choice, and support assisted places at
private schools), generally less red-tape and bureaucracy in relation to business, less power to unions, and generally not trying to meddle so much
with what basically works already!
I suppose the positions are quite similar, certainly by US standards. Sorry for the vague response but this is a bit of a funny time in UK politics
since the biggest issue right now, i.e. greater or lesser integration with Europe is in theory a non partisan issue.(it will be decided by referendum,
not party policy)
