This is ASTONISHING! The Queen's Diamond Jubilee is on the same date as the 2012 Venus Transit!

Certainly does, thank you kindly.

I did just dismiss this as coincidence but seeing how it is really very rare (in human terms, not universe sized ones where it's practically every day)...who knows!

I have a question about this...

Look:

"There will be a special bank holiday to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in the United Kingdom (UK) on Tuesday, June 5, 2012. This event honors the 60-year reign of Queen Elizabeth II in the UK."

source: www.timeanddate.com...

But...

The Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II was on June 2, 1953...

So, on June 2, 2012, it's just 59 years of reign, not 60 years...

So, why this party in 2012, not in 2013?

Can we learn more about the Jubilee? Guestlist?

No, that is not right which is entirely understandable if you aren't from here. The nation is throwing the Queen a multi day party, not the Royals throwing themselves a party.

Lots of parties for the Golden Jubilee but not many Monarchs get to the Diamond jubilee date so even more parties for this one. Part of the celebration (seems a bit pointless tbh) will involve a 7 mile (or 1000 boat, whichever you prefer) sail past on the river Thames.

I can answer this one too (feel on a roll now!)

Basically, celebrations for coronations revolve around the year of the reign rather than the actual specific date - this is the 60th year of her reign (rather than her being on the throne for 60 years), hence the celebration. As to the why this is the case? Im afraid i can't help on that bit.

In my math, 2012 - 1953 = 59.

1953 + 60 = 2013.

Something is wrong here...

Good question, and that is why I strongly suspect the focus will be on Prince William's possible ascension to the throne (or developments to it).

I guess we'll just have to wait and see!

Took the throne in 1952, coronation in 1953. Not the same things I don't think. Hence been queen since 1952.

Hmmm...

First year of reign = 1953..

Second year of reign = 1954...

Third year = 1955..

Tenth year = 1962...

Makes sense... I guess...

So, they are going to celebrate the "beginning" of the 60th year?

Yep...

Debunkers will try to come up with all sorts of explanations to why its like that but unfortunately, simple math just debunks them.

Like I said before, transits of Venus normally signify change, destruction and revelations i.e. Such as the 2004 Venus Transit was Reagan's funeral during the transit/sunset and Schwarzenegger in focus (his bid to run as Governer of California), this could possibly be the handing over of the throne from Elizabeth to Prince William or something related to it.

But, if the coronation was on June 2, why the party of the Diamond jubilee will be on June 5, the day of the transit of Venus?

Basically it is as the poster above said, she took the throne in 1952 but wasn't crowned until 1953 - the coronation refers to the crowning in Westminster Abbey (for the UK) rather than the actual time as Head of the Monarchy.

Oh good grief, no. First year of reign 1952. It's not hard.

Made queen in 1952.

Coronation 1953.

The coronation was on June 2, 1953.

If they are celebrating the fact that she's Queen since 1952, why the party will be close to June 2?

Her father, George VI, died on February 6, 1952.

Why the party is not in the beginning of February???

Why the party is in the date of the coronation, 59 years ago?

Okay, I will make a concession...

The Silver Jubilee was in June 1977, not in 1978...

And the Golden Jubilee was in June 2002, not in 2003...

So, apparently, they always do it in June, marking the "beginning of the year"...

Exactly - it is not the specific date itself that is important for these celebrations.

Okay, MAYBE it's just a coincidence...

The Golden Jubilee in 2002 started on Saturday, June 1, and extended until Tuesday, June 4.

The Diamond Jubilee in 2012 will start on Saturday, June 2, and will extend until Tuesday, June 5.

So, maybe it's just a coincidence that the transit of Venus will start at 22:09 UTC of June 5...

But an odd coincidence, anyway...
