Any time I have ever used the NHS, I have been treated with nothing but the utmost dignity and care, far from the "broken meat machines" male cow dung you speak of.
You keep your own medical system, see how much you like it when you have to mortgage your house just to pay for a minor operation. I'll think of your plight as I recover from a hypothetical quadruple heart bypass at no immediate cost to myself.

What a load of rubbish. England (sure you don't mean the UK?) is for whoever is accepted onto our shores. Who do you think Angles and Saxons were?
And to Wrabbit, i apologise for going off topic but i just had to respond.....edit on 17-1-2012 by Flavian because: apology to Wrabbit

For my whole effort to point out how much nationality doesn't matter and the fact this just happened to occur under the UK system, that is all you took away? I get the impression you have a lot of real hard feelings for Americans, but try not taking it out on one who just got done making a point with runs along with yours, not against it.
I wasn't slamming the NHS....just the mentality the whole thing apparently engenders, and we ARE seeing it here too. The concept of Government and Societal ownership of ALL things and people as being absolute is new, but becoming accepted faster than I ever could have imagined...and it's happening in many nations.
Yikes...

Don't get me wrong, I love this land and all it has to offer. So why wouldn't you want to share it with others? I feel blessed to have been born here and I know many people that have travelled hundreds of miles just to live here as they were born in poverty stricken countries. No one chooses where they are born in the world but we all are born on the same rock at the end of the day so show some love to your fellow man and welcome them to your home or else you may be sorry when this country goes down the toilet and it is you looking for a new home.
You are pathetic.Go to africa if you love seeing negroes all day long. England is for white people.

When i was teaching, one of my colleagues was/is married to one of the world's foremost specialists in the effects of mobile technology on the brain. As such, his firm had contracts drawn up with various bodies in the US (im assuming it must have been approved by the government) to take the corpses of prisoners, mentally impaired, etc to basically bombard with mobile signals and to then dissect to see the results. The brains of these organs had to be living tissue otherwise it would invalidate any results. I discussed this several times with her husband over a couple of years. It was fascinating but he never divulged how the brains were, in effect, still living.
The point i am making is that similar things have definitely been going on in America!

This is the most stunning post I've seen in my short time on ATS.
My first thought is these people were on life support. A friend of mine was on life support after a car crash left him with a fence post stuck in his head. When the ambulance arrived they couldn't find him, he'd crawled off with the snapped off post stuck in his forehead. He's a Devon farm lad, they build 'em tough. After ten days the doctors wanted to switch off his life support, the family asked for another 24 hours. Next morning he woke up and went on to live a not exactly normal life. He had unusual abilities. Such as the ability to fill an ashtray exactly to the brim with bright green vomit. Perhaps you don't want to hear about his other unusual abilities but my point is dead isn't always dead. I shudder at the thought of experiments such as this.

My outrage on this topic and subject isn't from the practice of Body parts being harvested and kept for science or training. It's ignorant to think it doesn't happen and naive to think a world can exist with doctors and medicine where learning isn't advanced this way.
I'd noted that there are plenty of unclaimed bodies in any major city. Prisoners are another class where unclaimed bodies are not unheard of. If shortages still exist, fine.. throw prisoners some commissary funds or something for signed consent when the time comes. There are ways to get what is needed.. but not like this.
This isn't just immoral...it's just a violation at the deepest level imaginable. This is suggesting an acceptance that nothing..but absolutely NOTHING is ours. Not even our own bodies or the parts therein. If we're ready to give even that last thing...that last ownership of self for, as some have said 'the good of society'..then what is left?
Really...have we sunk that low?edit on 17-1-2012 by Wrabbit2000 because: (no reason given)
You are the squeaky wheel. Why giva a damn if your body is cut up after you are dead?
Your body does NOT belong to you, it belongs to the universe.
After all, you are made of the same star-dust as the rest of us.
There is no heven, no hell. And morals are just a figment of the human races imagination.

I don't think it was as sinister as my post may have led you to believe - for example, im fairly sure some of those used were death row inmates and the organs taken immediately at the point of death.
Like i said, he talked about all sorts of aspects of the research but not the actual getting the organs bit so i am totally unsure on that bit. He did show me pictures of the machine they used though - think on the lines of an MRI machine but with what was basically lots of criss crossed cheese wire at the end! It was both extremely cool and rather disturbing!

Okay.. For all the responsibility I may hold as an American for what Irish citizens were allowed to do by a Government I'm quite obviously not fond of myself.....I'd note something about a minor disagreement the British had with us awhile back. Yes....Y'all burnt our house down as I recall. It's something we probably still ought to be sore about. After all, you'd be equally unforgiving if we burned down Buckingham Palace at some time in the distant past.
Since both examples of blame have about as much relevance to individuals like you and I being hostile toward each other, I guess both are equally valid.
Oh well... Have a good evening over there anyway. Have a pint or something... Maybe it'll help.
