International Space Station Commander Dan Burbank captured spectacular imagery of Comet Lovejoy as seen from about 240 miles above the Earth's horizon on Wednesday, Dec. 21. Burbank described seeing the comet as "the most amazing thing I have ever seen in space," in an interview with WDIV-TV in Detroit.

The video is amazing, but I don't think it adequately provides the emotion of actually being there. I can't imagine the feeling of being in the ISS and seeing the long bright white streak of Lovejoy appear out of the vast darkness that is Space.

Thanks for posting this video, most likely wouldn't have seen it otherwise.

How TRULY breathtaking is that

Its unbelievable the wonders that some people get to witness in their life.

To have seen what that man has seen would be an experience second to none. Its a shame more people cant get to witness those types of things.

More of a shame that as a country we have some men hovering in space witnessing miraculous events before their eyes every second, while there are children starving on the streets, but I digress.

Nice video indeed. Btw, that is one of the few NASA videos from the ISS where the stars are very visible. Almost all of NASA videos from space only have darkened sky as background. Are they hiding something from us?

I think the ISS's time and position over the Earth has a lot to do with it. The stars are far more visible in video while the ISS is on the dark side of the earth (see Aurora Lights ISS) than compared with when ISS is flying over the light side (see this video).

But you're right, it does look surreal. But then again, I've never been in Space. I can't properly justify what is surreal and what is not.

What is that in the 2nd vid, moving along the horizon, right to left from around :08-:10?

Looks incredible, btw...can't imaging what a first hand view would be like. Everyone knows the camera doesn't do the real thing justice.

Does anyone know what cameras are used on the ISS? Are they Japanese?
