But Obama wants to combine 6 agencies, cutting 2000 jobs and saving $3 billion, and it's a bunch of crap, met with a bunch of negativity...

I think this is a good move by Obama and I will nearly always support less government, no matter who initiates it.

This is not about the agencies.

It's about him trying to enact powers that were stripped from the president in the Reagan era.

For a reason...

The same powers that would have to be given to Ron Paul in order for him to "dismantle five agencies"? As was mentioned before, Obama plans to reduce government = evil, while Ron Paul plans to reduce government = almost Godliness and great Constitutionalist.

Typical ATS Ron Paul "sheeple" hypocrisy!

I'm torn.

I really distrust Obama, vehemently.

Yet, I can see no downside to this at all. I wonder what it could be? There may be no downside but I really, really, really feel that there is. Why?

theres going to be consultants hired to enable the merger and since theres going to be more responsability for the top management there will be pay rises for those guys and factor how long its going to take to do could be a deliberate poisoned chalice for whoever does get the top job should obama decide to take the easy route

Yeah I listened to the address, analysts predict 1,000 to 2,000 jobs cut. Between that and cutting back the military, I am wondering just how he is going to create jobs, private or otherwise. I absolutely want smaller government and less red tape. Sounds like that is his goal. Yet he is asking for a trillion more. Another thing that concerned me is he stated the government doesn't work. DUUUUH. He is just now figuring this out? I thought that was one of his campain slogans - hope and change. People voted for him because they didn't want the same 'ole same 'ole. He so far hasn't produced.

The ultimate cut is to move the US Capitol to Jerusalem.

They run the US anyways. We already pay them anyways. It's the goal of Zion, that Americans are helping to accomplish.

How much would we save eliminating Washington DC and turning it into a historical tourist attraction?

I find it a little difficult to decide whether this is a legitimate bid for a cleaner, for efficient system, or a scheme for consolidating and entwining the various agencies beneath his direct control.

Basically, this:

"Can't tell if for us, or for him..." T_T?

you must ask this, why now. why when it is election time he asked for this power to be able to down size the gov by combining offices and agency's into one, could the next step be DHS TSA CIA FBI NSA FEMA be as one my bet would be on a NSA supper office combine intel with in filed foot troops with the right and power to shoot on site ask later, The right and power to detain and question you any way needed, the right and power not to answer to anyone but the Sec Def of the Pres.
just a thought.

I agree here is what i think from my thread.

acting like he is going through with campaign promises to streamline Gov. it looks like Obama is making a Power grab interestingly they compare his action to that of the Great depression with the excuse that

He said Congress first granted this authority during the Great Depression so presidents "could swiftly reorganize the executive branch to meet the changing needs of the American people and the immediate challenges of the Great Depression."

what that really means is streamlining the way for the war machine just like it allowed in WW2 during the great depression. seeing any similarities to the depression era here? i sure am.

A great financial depression caused by the banking system itself. check. sanctions on a foreign country causing anger and military war posturing from both sides.check. lines and allies being drawn, world powers military being strategically positioned.

I have been warning of a power grab like this from Obama or his admin. it comes in the form of protection we need our glorious leader to protect us so lets give him more power...its funny how they mention the DHS later in the article.

He noted the Department of Homeland Security "reports to over 100 different congressional panels." He said his administration, during the past three years, has tried to rectify some wasteful wrongs by paring government when possible and taking advantage of 21st century technology.

right there shows his true intentions free up the Dept. of Homeland security in the guise of more efficiency, what is really happening is the unraveling of the checks and balance system that keeps the DHS in line... soon enough I fear we will see Obama appoint a select group within the DHS that will be under his strict command. any of this ringing a bell?

He shows his motivation and lack of Gov. knowledge with quotes like this. "With or without Congress, I'm going to act," Obama said, seems like he has no regard for our Gov. and the way it works he knows best so lets all sit back and watch him continue to rewrite our US history.

1. Cut departments, not "merge" them.

2. Spend less. Waaaaaaaaaaaaaay less.
I would replace our budget with the exact same one from 1984. (I turned 21 that year
)

3. I would stop sending money to our enemies.
Just our friends.

4. I would stop paying each and every senator and congressmans salary and medical benefits and retirements.
It should be an honour and a privelege to serve, not a damned reward.

5. A flat tax for everyone. (at a progressive level, don't bother showing me the math)

6. Raise taxes on imports. You want a chinese product over American? It'll cost ya'.

7. Stop the bailouts. On everything. If you fail, you fail. Deal with it, sport.

8. Stop entitlements. But I'm a softy. I'd give every citizen 24 months. I'd give every illegal "citizen" 24 hours.

9. Gradually return to the gold standard, eliminating fiat currency and the fed.

10. Drill for oil in America. Build refineries, power plnts, and give incentives to actual "green" energy that works.
This would release us from reliance from the middle east and all their messes and create self-reliance.

Anyway, that's what I would do.

Dunno. Not a real big fan of Paul.

If you believe he wants to reduce government then you are a fool. He wants to destroy the government checks & balances set in place by the Constitution. He is a socialist/communist or whatever you wanna call it. You can deny that any way you think will make you feel better. All you need to do is look at everybody around him and that speaks volumes. Oh yea he is racist too, I mean he sat in church talking about hating white people and such for 20 years but didn't pay attention come on.

Has he done anything that he has said from his campaign, "Hope & Change"? He has done exactly the opposite and has never said what that change is. Now we know what that change is.

He is only combining agencies together and wants control of them. If he wanted to make a different then get rid of them all together.

I so hope that when the idea of freedom is destroyed, oh yea it already is and has been for too long, that I am the first one killed so I don't have to live in this place and listen to idiots like you anymore.

One possible reasoning is, if Ron Paul actually becomes president "which i believe he has became that threat to the status quo", if they can merge all these departments together it will make it harder for the next president to eliminate them

It's just Obama taking orders from TPTB in the restructuring and preparation for the up and coming fascist dictatorship of the next president in line...

Milton Friedman would be so proud of his students right now, they've been progressing along so very nicely.

doubt it would save much given its only going to reduce the head count by 1-2000 jobs and they'll probably all the lowest paid ones so probably it'll make no actual change day to day but looks good when theres elections soon

Not to mention what outcry there will be from the Govt Employee Union.
I am sure that the persons would not even be let go, but reassigned elsewhere in the Federal Govt.

Smoke and Mirrors.

Actually the Obama Administration has been streamlining and combining a lot of agencies, funding and grants. Not only does it save money, it also makes it easier for agencies that have to meet requirements for these grants, to only have to apply and meet criteria for one grant then two at different times. It is starting to save a lot of man hours that can be felt all the way down to the local level.

Not for noth'n but...

Can we see some examples with some facts & figures.

Did any of this actually impact the majority of citizens in a positive way ?

Is this new "announcement" following the same patterns ?

Imagine 6 small agencies getting "X" dollars per annum for their budget with "Y" people staffing the agencies.

Now, under Obama, you'll have one agency getting 6X budget, to staff 6Y people.

It's just a shell game, in my humble opinion.

Isn't it funny how republicans base their entire party platform on smaller, less intrusive government and the moment that the President attempts to initiate a move that could accommodate some of those principles, "It's just a shell game."

OK ok ok .. let's spell it out reeeaaallllllyyyy slow so you can understand, mmkay?

Merging six entities does not mean you make anything smaller .. it means you end up with six different agencies under one name .. or, one massive agency..

Abolishing 5 agencies and saying since the one agency did all that anyways and firing all the people who worked at the other 5 agencies .. THAT .. is called shrinking the Government.

If you cannot understand this, you're pretty freaking stupid.

Why, yes, this is an election year. Why do you ask?

This is more Hope and Change that he promised in '08. When he becomes president again, he will say "it won't work in the form I had envisioned" or "the economy is still in a slump, and I have to focus on that right now". Or, "I haven't finished bombing people yet. When I'm done, I'll shrink the government."

1. Cut departments, not "merge" them.

Merging is a start in doing so efficiencies are created for both the clients and the providers. The republicans are whining about the consolidation

2. Spend less. Waaaaaaaaaaaaaay less.
I would replace our budget with the exact same one from 1984. (I turned 21 that year )

Yeah I was thity-one - it was the year I circumnavigated the United states in an airplane I paid 6000.oo for and was outraged that the FBOs were charging almost a dollar a gallon for av gas car gas was 50 cents. We didnt have computers or IT -- yeah a 1984 budget will work just fine

3. I would stop sending money to our enemies.
Just our friends.
Who might that be.

4. I would stop paying each and every senator and congressmans salary and medical benefits and retirements.
It should be an honour and a privelege to serve, not a damned reward.

Every one should have single payor health insurance -

5. A flat tax for everyone. (at a progressive level, don't bother showing me the math)

A flat progressive tax - sense that dosen't make.

6. Raise taxes on imports. You want a chinese product over American? It'll cost ya'.

I kinda agree here - but I would make it less attractive to out source.

7. Stop the bailouts. On everything. If you fail, you fail. Deal with it, sport.

I think the financial bailouts were poorly handled and Bush should have made conditions. He didn't On the other hand - Romney is saying that we should have let GM fail.. GM is now the largest producer of vehicles in the world. It was a bad idea to save all those jobs for GM and its suppliers.

8. Stop entitlements. But I'm a softy. I'd give every citizen 24 months. I'd give every illegal "citizen" 24 hours.

What about your mom or your grand ma - no more healthcare or SS.

9. Gradually return to the gold standard, eliminating fiat currency and the fed.

That it just dumb -- can't happen won't happen

10. Drill for oil in America. Build refineries, power plnts, and give incentives to actual "green" energy that works.

President does do this -- nothing but criticism Solentra (sp) fails SOCIALISM Romney bankrupts companies -- CAPITALISM HYPOCRACY

This would release us from reliance from the middle east and all their messes and create self-reliance.

The whole oil thing -- you do know that if we strike oil in Iowa - that that oil sells to the highest bidder it does not belong to us it belongs to BP or Exxon Mobil. It won't affect our price or dependency -- that is how the free market works.. You do know that we are exporting gasoline right now that keeps our prices up.

In the mean time the best republican president the repubs have ever had does things that they only talk about ---- and you scream NOBAMA -- now why is that??
