I'd also like to recommend the book "Wiley Handbook of Science and Technology for Homeland Security" by J. Voeller. It's a massive tome which details various techniques, technologies and probability algorithms employed by the DHS. Game theories would also be a good subject to research if you're interested in how these people think, and how they analyze data.

It would be far cheaper to pay me a decent salary than to pay several people 5x as much each to monitor me. It's just silly.

Here is the actual Memo....

www.dhs.gov...

It is about compiling a network of politicians and reporters for the purposes of releasing information during national disaster and recovery. It has all types of limitations to that effect. They are looking for means to communicate news in "real time" during a disaster.

Doesn't mean the gov doesn't spy on us, but this document/announcement has nothing to do with it.

The OP and similair articles took the memo I linked to and excluded content that clarifies it's purpose and limitations.

The link is right there....always look for the actual doc...never trust the spin.

Sadly the only response the OP was fishing for here were emotional ones that rely on ignorance of the facts. Aside from the erroneously accused DHS program that is designed to disseminate disaster and other emergency information via social media, there is the DHS/NOC program for monitoring certain media outlets, and another Fed. Res. program for monitoring social media that is outside the scope of the president's influence.

NOC (National Operations Center) itself was created in 2005, when several of these programs were initiated. The DHS .pdf that was released Jan. 6th (DHS/OPS/PIA-007 - Publicly Available Social Media Monitoring and Situational Awareness Initiative) was an update. The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) revealed this same program was in use during Obama's inauguration (New FOIA Documents Reveal DHS Social Media Monitoring During Obama Inauguration) which shows it was in place and in use before Obama was in office - but I don't think the OP would admit that.

This thread is about 7-8 years late in complaining about "gathering of personal data" - WTH, the NSA itself piggybacks off the major telecom nodes to monitor ALL Web traffic. A more recent story on that is:

Post-9/11, NSA 'enemies' include us (From Politico.com)

Around the country, in tall, windowless telecom company buildings known as switches, NSA technicians quietly began installing beam-splitters to redirect duplicate copies of all phone calls and email messages to secret rooms behind electronic cipher locks.

There, NSA software and hardware designed for “deep packet inspection” filtered through the billions of email messages looking for key names, words, phrases and addresses. The equipment also monitored phone conversations and even what pages people view on the Web — the porn sites they visit, the books they buy on Amazon, the social networks they interact with and the text messages they send and receive.

Dearest snowspirit, your thoughts from your post on the first page of this thread are mine exactly. I have a feeling that this program has ran for years and have tested it to a certain level using phone conversations, emails and txt messages. I have also tested the info gathering program they like to call face book to see whether we here in the UK are scrutinised as much as you's over the pond are & we have a lot more freedom of speech that is for sure.

My conclusions are that you are correct, at times I have played games of cat and mouse with the government (all be they dangerous ones) and reactions have been made against some of the false flags I have thrown at them.

Technology is far more advanced than we could ever believe, we are truly kept in the dark and are treated like sheep by the people or whatever are in control. This is only a short response but I just wanted you to know that you are not alone in your thoughts, nor paranoid or going over the top.

I believe that even our U2U's are monitored on this site and have tested these also, nothing though will make me leave this site or face book. The only way they will stop me from trying to open others eyes and lift the veil would be to take me out...believe that has been attempted also but I may be more of a help to them in some ways I suspect than a hindrance.

Good observations snowspirit, thank you for believing also.

May you succeed in whatever you set out to achieve.

Peace brothers and sisters & ':p' to the people monitoring, you's know who I am, where I am situated, you's can find me whenever you's like, I have not hidden from you's for years now...if you's want me come and get me...I am ready and if that is the case then so be it.

Hey Obama, I got a message for you. If your Kenyan citizenship is exposed, you'll be hanging from a tree.

Oh man, don't say that. Thanks, here comes Al Sharpton now. I hope you're happy.

Well, at least somebody is reading.

But seriously if you didn't see this coming you should clean your glasses. The internet is not only the most untouched real estate we have, but also the largest source of secrets and information available to anyone with any knowledge to find it. The government is turning into the entity we don't want it to be, that's for sure.

While it is creepy, the first ammendment, while allowing for free speech, does not state that people/governments can't listen in, can't monitor.

Now what people/governments DO after listening is subject to interpretation and should be monitored by the people.

(Did you gov guys get that?
)

Yeah, it kinda defeats the purpose of having free speech if the government ISN'T listening, doesn't it?

Personally, I could care less if they listen in to what I say on public forums, things like "the government can bite me - I'm not buying their stupid insurance ponzi scheme" or "the government can kiss my rosy red butt-tocks, I'm not going to comply with their silly-assed SOPA, and will not only circumvent it at every turn, but facilitate others world-wide in doing so as well, just to demonstrate how useless the Great Firewall of China is, even when brought to the US". Stuff like that, I WANT them to hear - it may be the only time they ever listen!

Now, there are other things they are doing that violate not the First, but the Fourth Amendment. That is troublesome, but I got sumpin' fer their asses there, too!

Yup, this coming year is shaping up to be a hell of a ride!

It's sad, I know, but I'm pretty sure I do. I mean, who could compete with THAT?

I duck from sniper fire with more flair, though, especially on trips to the Balkans...

That can't be the real list.

To think of all the forums out there that exists solely for attracting anti-social and even hateful people.

Stormfront for example.

There is no shortage of forums like that. Thirty seconds on Google can land you in some very dark places despite filtering and censoring measures. Imagine what you can find if you intentionally seek it out.

And according to that list they're just focusing on Twitter and Facebook?

That doesn't make any sense.

They're looking for coordination efforts. Those types of sites played a big part in the Arab Springs and OWS and the like, so they want to know where efforts are being concentrated, rather than what they are being concentrated about.

They don't care what we think, they want to know what we're going to DO.

I won't deny any evil or evil intent from Obama, but I don't see how people on this site with as much research and knowledge in the workings of the the government would more or less put the soul blame on Obama. In my opinion, he is a meer puppet. A patsey if you will. He may pull some strings here and thier , but he is like a spokesperson for the dirty deeds the groups that actually hold the shovels that petal the proverbial dog # that rains down on our constitution every day. Just my opinion.

I mean face it, we get the hot issue news days before the vanilla media can even write it up. This is the happening hub to pull down the juicy tidbits. We actually know more than the govt about world opinion and how other countries respond to the oval idiot.

But the election will send obam home on the greyhound so no one in gov should be too comfortable about even having a job soon.

The days of cutting the fat hog are almost over.

The trimming will hit every aspect of govt so like me I hope everyone has a plan to cut firewood or mow lawns. I prefer lawns.

And yes. this message is laced with over a dozen secret codes and messages. Bwahahahahaa! (no not really)

Yes, really!

Message received. Operational Annex C in full effect.

The Fat Man sings in the dark. REPEAT: The Fat Man sings in the dark.

Operational Detachment F en route, location code "Valhalla".

Out.

This is an interesting (but not surprising) story.

What I'd like to know is how this news story directly impacts the members at ATS. You might not know the answer to this, so I'm asking you to speculate.

How does this situation play itself out here? Are they reading our posts, figuring out our identities, squirelling us away in a file?

Do these so called "spies" really have memberships here and are they posting on the boards?

How does this effect us directly?

Curious.

They have been here since the beginning. The Obama Administrations main goal has been to merely legalize everything the Bush administration already did. Didn't you ever wonder about all the posters that regardless of logic, reason, heck even common human decency would spout of the same pro gov BS with a straight face?

The only difference we should expect is for these dishonorable traitors(yes, government agents who go undercover for the purpose of collecting data on peaceful people are traitors to the US constitution and are criminal scum) is for them to try and get buddy buddy.
