DHS Monitors Drugereport, Social Media. Prep for SOPA?

In a document released to Reuters Wensday (today) DHS reveals its current hobby.

A "privacy compliance review" issued by DHS last November says that since at least June 2010, its national operations center has been operating a "Social Networking/Media Capability" which involves regular monitoring of "publicly available online forums, blogs, public websites and message boards."

Now DHS claims the purpose of the program is to

"collect information used in providing situational awareness and establishing a common operating picture."

Now many of us already knew this was going on but in light of SOPA i found one part particularly interesting

that such monitoring is designed to help DHS and its numerous agencies, which include the U.S. Secret Service and Federal Emergency Management Agency, to manage government responses to such events as the 2010 earthquake and aftermath in Haiti and security and border control related to the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, British Columbia.

So my take on this is they've been watching this stuff since 2010 to

"establishing a common operating picture."

so they would be able to, once SOPA goes live, they would be able to notify and assist the proper govt agency by providing proper ammo for them to use. Now they claim they aren't going to hold onto the internet traffic, but i wonder what data the NSA is going to use that huge server farm in Utah then? hmm maybe more bit torrented self-help storage space...

ATS Americans -- the America we knew is gone. Behind the guise of "protecting America" this corrupt and communist government first signs into law the Patriot Act, and now, this.

Our freedoms are gone. We are now under "surveillance" by the very government that is supposed to protect our freedoms.

Whether you are liberal or conservative, Republican or Democrat, doesn't matter any longer.

No matter what, we are ALL AMERICANS, and we need to set aside our differences, get into focus, and look to who the true enemy of our freedom really is.

We need to put aside our differences and become one America again. We are being separated -- Divide and Conquer -- by the Federal Government. It is making us weaker.

One things for sure, its going to take more then one election in 2012 to fix this mess. I hope it doesn't take more than that but my faith in my fellow Americans is dwindling fast lol
