For the same reason that the conventional energy industry has not harnessed the full potential of solar energy (its free!), sunlight and its indispensable byproduct in our skin: vitamin D, represents a serious threat to the medical establishment, whose questionable and aggressive promotion of vaccination and drug-based strategies in place of inexpensive, safe and effective vitamin D supplementation (or better, carefully meted out recreation and sunlight exposure) for immunity, has many questioning their motives.

Vitamin D, after all, has a vital preventive role to play in hundreds of conditions, due to the fact that 1 in every 10 genes in the human body depends on adequate quantities of this gene-regulatory hormone to function optimally. In other words, the very genetic/epigenetic infrastructure of our health would fall apart without adequate levels.

Even the risk for developing cancer, one of the most feared health conditions of our time -- and the one the medical establishment has had the least success preventing and treating -- is intimately connected to your vitamin D status.

I had to post this because I argue with a lot of people about it and they always tell me how bad the sun is for me. I have always thought the sun was good for us and the reason being is that we and almost everything on the Earth evolved with the sun. What sounds more natural, something we evolved with, or some petroleum prduct that we rub all over our skin?

Well I know my standing, and hopefully this helps some of you make up your minds as well.

Any thoughts?

Pred...

The ingredients don't sound too healthy though. Zinc oxide, titanium dioxide, and then...

UVA chemical ingredients

Avobenzone, Parsol 1789, Dioxybenzone (UVB, UVAII), Ecamsule, Menthyl Anthranilate, Meradimate, Oxybenzone (benzophenone, benzophenone-3), Sulisobenzone (UVB, UVAII).

UVB chemical ingredients

Aminobenzoic acid, Cinnamates (octyl methoxycinnamate (OMC), Ethylhexyl p-Methoxycinnamate, high incident of contact irritation, non comedogenic, widely used), Cinoxate, Dioxybenzone (UVB, UVAII), Ensulizole, Homosalate, Octocrylene, Octinoxate, Octisalate, Oxybenzone (UVB, UVAII), Octyl dimethyl paba, Padimate O, Para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA), Salicylates (octyl salicytate (OCS), high incident of contact irritation, widely used), Sulisobenzone (UVB, UVAII), Trolamine salicylate.

I'm sure some of these compounds, in the right ratios, could power a rocket to the moon!

ETA And a vague "citation needed" wikipedia quote to round it off:

However, the use of sunscreens is controversial for various reasons. Many sunscreens do not block UVA radiation, which does not cause sunburn but can increase the rate of melanoma, another kind of skin cancer, and photodermatitis, so people using sunscreens may be exposed to a high UVA levels without realizing it.

Seems like it's not quite an open and shut case.

I am 61 yrs old, and have never used sunscreen on my body. I've never had any cancer, nor cholesterol problems.

There is something in sunscreen, that smells...yes, I said smells...very unhealthy. No matter what brand...it's still there.

I trust my gut on this one...and many other items that society says we must use or die.

I use to get crispy ears (because they stick out ) when I was younger and therefore used a 50 block on them. However, now that I do a lot of Sailboat racing and am out in the sun a lot, I no longer burn as easy nor do I wear sunscreen, well only on me lips because sun/wind burn on dry lips hurts like a hot damn.

I have never used sunblock. I am fair complected, many freckles to show how much I love the sun. For me it is a matter of not over doing it. I have had a few nasty burns, but still no damage to my skin. It always seemed kind of silly to me to use chemicals to protect my self from what is natural.

Most of mankind's ailments can be directly linked to some corporation somewhere.

it should be required reading for every man, woman and child.

you need to 8000 to 10000 i.u a day...

200 or 400 i.u is just like very weak tea....same as trying to a fill a leaky bucket with a dripping tap.

it is really annoying nobody spreads the word about this on facebook/twitter which is mostly used to report some twits drunken antics or celebrities verbal diarrhea.
