Md. ex-soldier charged with attempting to join terrorist organization al-Shabab in Somalia
By Associated Press, Updated: Monday, January 9, 1:39 PM

GREENBELT, Md. — A former soldier from Maryland has been charged with attempting to provide material support to a terrorist organization in Somalia.

Federal prosecutors in Maryland say 24-year-old Craig Baxam of Laurel was arrested Friday. He is charged with attempting to provide support to al-Shabab by trying to join its ranks

Prosecutors say Baxam left the United States in December and was arrested by Kenyan authorities, who suspected he was traveling to Somalia to join al-Shabab. He was interviewed by FBI agents in Kenya and arrested on his return to Maryland.

Under the 2012 NDAA we may never hear from this person. Ever again.

That was quick. Is the ink dry on that legislation yet?

Unfortunately, the majority of arrests an indefinite detentions that occur under this law would likely show up exactly like this. "Some really bad guy was arrested for something you should be afraid of. Don't worry. It's handled."

The rest we will never hear about (except anecdotally). "I haven't seen my neighbour in months, but someone new moved into his house."

A former soldier from Maryland has been charged with attempting to provide material support to a terrorist organization in Somalia.

He's been charged, so that's not NDAA.

When they use NDAA, you won't even know about it.

After 9/11, a lot of muslims disappeared... ever heard news report about it? Nope.

So... even without the new NDAA we may never hear from him ever again.
