This thread has nothing to do with movies and everything to do with aliens and their technology. i shall be complaining about this vastly unfair thread move.

A super advanced race would not even bother with our planet because they could tap into the resources in nebula or even some other exotic sources that we know nothing about. They would not even take notice of our race until we tread onto their territory. Everything that we have on this planet in limited resources is highly available in outer space.

If we spend HALF the money on our space program that we spend warmongering, we would already have colonized Mars and would be tapping into her resources. Just food for thought. We need to quit fighting over the limited resources of this planet and figure out how to get into outer space and tap into the unlimited resources of the universe.

The above poster is exactly right. If aliens are able to travel the stars, there's simply no REASON to invade Earth. That is why alien invasion movies are kind of silly. In our own history, warfare is always about control of resources. Other reasons may be given, but when you get down to it, this is the end all, be all reason we fight each other. Without that motive, I just can't see what other reason there'd be, unless the aliens were simply sadistic.

This is one reason why I think ID4 works. Sure, it's a bit cheesy, and has plotholes you could drive a truck through, but it's still my favorite alien movie. In it, the aliens are just like locusts. They simply don't care. They'd just as easily use up the resources of an empty planet, as they would an occupied one. So, their motivation is actually realistic. They don't see us as a real threat, so it's like harvesting a crop while exterminating insects.

Our current activities are more like being mice fighting over crumbs on a chair, when there is a whole banquet table, just within reach, with no other mice there. We should be going out there and taking it, instead of fighting amongst ourselves. But, until we reach a level of having seemingly infinite resources, there will still be those who fight for the control of them.

All other technologies aside, if you consider that these guys can float 1 ton+ objects silently and drive them around our skies at mach10+, I cant see the attraction with Earth. They certainly won't slow down (to almost mach zero) for a dogfight.

I'm starting to think we simply don't rate. We probably have more in common with cows.

They don't communicate with us because none of them can slow their brains down without dropping into a coma. Maybe on 21st December this year, their zen master will come, they'll stick him in a freezer and after a day or two of His arrival, well all hear "Greetings, people" in our minds (before he drops dead from meditative exhaustion).

We've only had radio for 100 years. Imagine a race that has been planet hopping for a million.

It would be like gifting a lion with A voicebox and trying to have a conversation with it. The terms of reference are too different for easy communication. And that's here! Add a million years of techvolution.

Laser wars. Yeah, right. We're ego-driven diots. Teens with fast cars at best.

If Hollywood is promoting violence towards aliens, the opposite is true. If Hollywood portrays the aliens as something to be avoided, the opposite is true. Unfortunately, Hollywood brainwashing is very strong (and very successful) that a lot of people (even from ATS) buy the Hollywood version of the aliens as someone we have to fight to death.

Simple logic will get you into conclusion that if these aliens are really planning to invade us, they could have done it a long time ago. Why do they have to wait until we develop sophisticated weapons before they finally fight us? Do they want a fair fight? It doesn't make sense. I don't think that they are really planning to invade us. More like they would like to help us evolve more.

Simple logic says your premise is flawed =)

You are assuming those aliens had been here, they already know about us and if they didn't invade is because they don't want, but the problem is that with all the ufo's, storys about abductions, or theories, there isn't hard proof about aliens visiting us, so you can't says that they know about us as a fact, and that means your premise is pure speculation.

Anyway, the answer to your speculation is easy, the universe is so big that there must be trillions of species and in that case is possible the invaders really don't know about us, maybe they are in transit, maybe they are planning their campaign, maybe they are conquering some other planet in this moment so they don't have time for us, who knows what reason those possible invaders may have.

Even if we assume some aliens had come here and know about us, maybe those are the good ones and the bad ones still don't know about us.

That's right, there is not reason to invade, but hey, aliens are aliens, maybe is not about resources but all them are crazy religious fanatics, or like to fight, or like you say, they are sadistic, etc etc

How many humans would go to a war only because they are bored?
