It seems to me, this guy was embezzling from his employer, who happened to be Scott Walker.
Since Walker initiated all the investigations, and it doesn't seem he received any financial benefit, I don't see the issue here.
Russell and Kavanaugh
weren't embezzling from Walker, they were embezzling from a charity fund. It was the former chief of staff Tom Nardelli
who noticed the money missing and contacted the prosecutors office to investigate. Walker had NOTHING to do with initiating an investigation - that's
a lie being spun by Walker. Nardelli contacted the prosecutor's office, and Walker was not in the loop. But after the fact Walker is trying to claim
he initiated the investigation in a conference call to the media.
This raises a lot of questions about Walker's management and his inner circle, given how these 3 seemed to be the recipient of extremely generous and
well-paying government jobs, including Russell's $50,000 pay raise courtesy of Mr. Walker. Walker and his staff BENEFITED from the money stolen from
the charity fund.
The charges against Russell and Kavanaugh involve embezzlement of money donated to help relatives of veterans killed or wounded in action. Some of
the money was used to pay for a trip to Atlanta for Walker's staff member to meet with one-time presidential candidate Herman Cain, the complaint
said.
Russell is STILL, even after the investigation and his being charged in the Purple Heart fund, running a veteran's charity Web site.
(
Operation Freedom WI). You can see images on their site of Walker and Russell with arms wrapped around
each other.
Russell isn't being called a close, long-time crony of Walker for no reason.
The charity in question (and still owned and operated by Russell):
Operation Freedom WI (Hurry up and donate, Russell could probably use another Hawaii vacation!)
I'm So Disappointed In Scott
Walker
BTW, Nardelli might be feeling the heat from his former boss (a good sign his contacting the prosecutor's office over the missing charity money wasn't
exactly doing his boss Walker any favors):
Milwaukee-Wisconsin Journal Sentinel: Nardelli abruptly quits state job:
Tom
Nardelli abruptly quit his state job with Gov. Scott Walker in late July, pulling the plug on his $90,000-a-year position just days after accepting
the post.
