Three Scott Walker Cronies Arrested

Three charged in John Doe investigation of Walker aides (Milwaukee-Wisconsin Journal Sentinel)

"Tim Russell, a former campaign and county aide to Gov. Scott Walker, was arrested by authorities on Thursday as part of the ongoing John Doe investigation into Walker staffers, sources said."

Three individuals - including a former top aide to Gov. Scott Walker - were charged Thursday with felonies as part of the ongoing John Doe investigation into Walker staffers.

Tim Russell, a longtime Walker campaign and county staffer, was charged with two felonies and one misdemeanor count of embezzlement. One source said the charges are tied to Operation Freedom, an annual military appreciation day held at the zoo.

Tim Russell is also the same guy Walker hired for several positions that resulted him in getting a $50,000 raise on top of his $50,000 a year salary. (Scott Walker Gives Long-Time Crony Huge Pay Raise). On top of his lucrative association with Walker, this guy has to steal from Veterans?

Also charged Thursday was Brian Pierick, Russell's longtime partner and a staffer at the state Department of Public Instruction, and Kevin Kavanaugh, Walker's appointee to the Milwaukee County Veteran Service Commission.

Kavanaugh is charged with five felonies for theft and fraudulent writings by a corporate officer. He was the treasurer of the Milwaukee Purple Heart chapter at the time of the dispute over the $11,000 for Operation Freedom.

Pierick, 48, was charged with two felony counts for child enticement. He is an office operations assistant at DPI dealing with education for homeless children and youth, according to the agency's website.

Walker spokesman Chris Schrimpf had no immediate comment on the news but said the office would provide one later in the day.

Wisconsin really needs to start cleaning house.

Birds of a feather, my friend... Russell is very close to the inner circle of Walker - not saying he is involved, but we're known by the company we keep.

Walker himself asked for the investigation, right?

In 2010, Walker's county administration had asked prosecutors to investigate what had happened to $11,000 raised in 2007 for the event.

O.P.'S Link

Also seems like this guy is just a scumball, regardless of affiliation.

A longtime political hand, Russell, 48, used to run former Gov. Tommy Thompson's Milwaukee office and had been with Walker since he ran for county executive in 2002. Russell did not get a job in the Walker administration in Madison.

O.P.'S link again

For those who don't know, Tommy Thompson was Wis. Gov. from 1987-2001.

It seems to me, this guy was embezzling from his employer, who happened to be Scott Walker.

Since Walker initiated all the investigations, and it doesn't seem he received any financial benefit, I don't see the issue here.

Russell and Kavanaugh weren't embezzling from Walker, they were embezzling from a charity fund. It was the former chief of staff Tom Nardelli who noticed the money missing and contacted the prosecutors office to investigate. Walker had NOTHING to do with initiating an investigation - that's a lie being spun by Walker. Nardelli contacted the prosecutor's office, and Walker was not in the loop. But after the fact Walker is trying to claim he initiated the investigation in a conference call to the media.

This raises a lot of questions about Walker's management and his inner circle, given how these 3 seemed to be the recipient of extremely generous and well-paying government jobs, including Russell's $50,000 pay raise courtesy of Mr. Walker. Walker and his staff BENEFITED from the money stolen from the charity fund.

The charges against Russell and Kavanaugh involve embezzlement of money donated to help relatives of veterans killed or wounded in action. Some of the money was used to pay for a trip to Atlanta for Walker's staff member to meet with one-time presidential candidate Herman Cain, the complaint said.

Russell is STILL, even after the investigation and his being charged in the Purple Heart fund, running a veteran's charity Web site. (Operation Freedom WI). You can see images on their site of Walker and Russell with arms wrapped around each other.

Russell isn't being called a close, long-time crony of Walker for no reason.

The charity in question (and still owned and operated by Russell):
Operation Freedom WI (Hurry up and donate, Russell could probably use another Hawaii vacation!)
I'm So Disappointed In Scott Walker

BTW, Nardelli might be feeling the heat from his former boss (a good sign his contacting the prosecutor's office over the missing charity money wasn't exactly doing his boss Walker any favors):
Milwaukee-Wisconsin Journal Sentinel: Nardelli abruptly quits state job:
Tom Nardelli abruptly quit his state job with Gov. Scott Walker in late July, pulling the plug on his $90,000-a-year position just days after accepting the post.
