I have always been able to count of my ATS comrades as the best thinkers in the world, whether the subject is politics, UFOs, or anything else.. I really am desperate. Coughing started in early Nov. and has somehow managed to get worse the last few days. Been to a million doctors, was told it is bronchitis, COPD, asthma, allergies, whooping cough, and more. I have taken every conventional medication imaginable with no results or relief whatsoever. I'm missing a large chunk of my 11 year old son's life by not being healthy enough to gather my wits together long enough to participate in menial things, and no one wants me in public. Fortunately, I'm obviously not contagious because after all this time, no one else has become ill.

Asked the doctor for cyanide (as a joke), but was refused. You guys are the best at everything here at ATS. Can someone please help me find something that works?

Could you say where you are living, might help to zero in on some contributing factors.

Just as in state , or province will do.

I'll ask the first dumb question.....Do you smoke?

Hope you get feeling better. I have had many friends and family members fight serious illness.

It's hard on everyone

This is going to sound silly but here goes. My neighbor had a chronic cough. She had coughed for nearly a year. We were having a barbeque and she came over. A neighbor told her to go to an ear doctor and see if she had a hair in her ear. Sure enough the doctor found a hair on her eardrum and pulled it out. Hasn't had the coughing in about 17 years now. Worth a try?

Have you been on any specific medications for the duration, and have any doctors x-rayed you yet to check for something possibly in your lungs? Chronic cough on MedicineNet.

If you didn't take on anything new shortly before this began, I'd definitely look into an X-ray if nothing else on chronic coughing pages seems to be a likely cause for you. Hopefully someone here can provide some more useful insights - good luck!

Get an xray. you might have pneumonia.
persistant cough is a serious condition.
Do you have a fever too.
I'd head to the emergency room if the doctor can't figure it out.

Buckles usually works, if not, try a drop of oregeno oil, but be careful, it can burn at first.

Apart from the obvious internal health issues that you should look into, you should also look very very closely at when this begun and immediately look at what furniture was purchased , what clothing and from what manufacturer was purchased, look into if you recently painted that house and last but not least did you recently upgrade your heating or install new filters or haven't installed filters. All these basic check points will lead you to the problem.

The following is my opinion as a member participating in this discussion.

**Do NOT seek medical advice from a forum.**

It's really really bad to take anybody's suggestions, other than a trained physician, or actual holistic healer if you are into the at sort of stuff.

Not that anybody here isn't knowledgeable and can't potentially lead you in the right direction, but professionals exist for a reason.

Thanks so much for the concern from you and everyone.

X-rayed yesterday. Nothing. Especially between the ears, but they were actually looking at my lungs I think.

He said hes been to a `million` doctors.

No harm in asking a far reaching audience for opinions and insight.

Is it a dry cough? Or productive? If it's productive...you're coughing something up, is it dry or wet? Also...does it have any color to it?

As tothetenthpower suggested and as I have stated in other forums, I will not give binding advice in a forum, but, knowing the answer to some of these things, may help me steer you to the correct specialist to go see.

I'm just saying he should be careful of what advice he takes or does not take. I only say that because my husband is a doctor and comes across countless patients who hurt themselves by taking strangers advice on the internet, without consulting a physician.

As for your cough, the only thing I can suggest is making your immune system stronger, so it can fight off whatever you have. Just go out and buy some Wheat Grass Juice. There's a lot of misinformation out there against WGJ, but that's just the pharma companies fooling you.

I understand the sentiment. I work in hospice, although somewhat ironic. By scouring the internet for information, I trust the guys here better than anyone to offer the truth. You are right, however, I don't think "advice" is appropriate. Suggestions, personal experiences, and anecdotal information would most definitely viewed as just that and as my chosen profession certainly dictates, scrutiny and discretion would be applied.

It is incredibly encouraging to see so many participating so quickly.

Thanks to all.

Try singing, I know sounds funny but it works for me and I am a smoker. I do it all the time, seems to clear out the lungs and the throat.

Thanks. completely dry cough, not productive, and don't feel like there is anything there to cough up.

Also, nothing new in routine or surroundings that my wife and I can recall prior to the onset. Bless her heart, my wife literally took all the carpet out of our bedroom in case there was some irritant there.

Still a mystery to us.

Do you take ANY medications? Avalide, Lisinopril etc can cause persistent agressive coughing.
