But you are right, they are PLEDGED candidates.

They will go to who ever is going to be the nominee at the time of the convention...that is what Iowa always does.

They aren't even "pledged" because the final delegates aren't even selected yet.

I'll actually revise my last statements, Ron Paul probably does have 7 delegates...because his supports and thus his delegates aren't really part of the GOP so they won't throw their support to someone else even if Ron Paul is losing badly.

On the other hand, all the other candidates will. So in reality, Romney or Santorum really got 19 delegates in Iowa compared to Ron Paul's 7. (CNN has an updated count on their primary/caucus page that has Santorum having 8 delegates, plus Gingrich's 2 and Perry's 2).

At some point, one by one they will drop out and they will have their delegates support someone else. No one is going to have theirs support Ron Paul...so in the end it will all go to one person. Right now it really looks like that is going to be either Romney or Santorum. So out of Iowa, Ron Paul got 7...the person he has to beat got 19. This is why Ron Paul will never win the nomination.


Also, there are other unpledged delegates already.

Romney has 18 delegates already 7 pledged and 11 unpledged. Santorum has 8, and Paul has 7.

I don't know about anyone else but when I hear about electoral college, delegates, caucus I have this uncontrollable urge to spot my top hat, gather up my looking glass, pick an appropriate walking stick and head on out to my buggy with my lantern.

I mean, can we PLEASE bring this antiquated process into the century we're currently residing in? This might've been fine when there were 20 people per town but we have too many people in this country now.

This is dumb, ineffective, unreliable and financially imprudent.
