I wanted to tell you OP that you have changed the life of some middle school children by posting this picture.

After seeing it this morning I had a flash of inspiration and decided to teach my art students about fractal patterns in nature.

I showed this picture, a human capillary, and a tree that had all the dirt cleared away from its roots.

They were amazed that these 'designs' were so very similar. I had kids come up to me after class and tell me about other fractal patterns in nature, like 'Spirals! They are in atoms, the galaxy and my toilet!' (Middle School, what are gonna do?)

So, for those of you worried about our kid's education, don't.

They are smart little thugs, freaks and weirdos.

And thank you OP, they needed that.

Isnt that the actual camel? I clearly see the shadows on the ground below them, some you even see the head and neck shadow, looks like the sun is right above them.

Nature can be downright beautiful and this is no exception. The water inching its way through the desert terrain and seeping into the sands has created a beautiful scene.

No story here, just wanted to share some of nature's beauty with my fellow ATS members, for you to enjoy as well.

I wonder if that is the tree of life?

a metaphor for evolution or creation?

the camera is over the camels backs and the black part is the long shadows cast by a low sun.

Very cool picture, reminds me of a Lichtenburg Figure.

Scroll down the wiki page and look at the guy who was struck by lightning.

Actually, the real reason the water is flowing like that is because of "the path of least resistance".

It is just like the electrons in a lightning strike. The electrons travel to every possible path, creating thousands of little branches, until they find the path of least resistance. Once the path is found, it is then traveled by all the electrons and becomes the main path.

The water is doing the same thing. It is traveling to every possible path, but the main path is the one with least resistance.

This "path of least resistance" is a universal law for all things.
