Hi op, really interesting thread, thanks for sharing.

I have never had an NDE but recently my dad did. Here is his story, I'll try to make it short.

Back story: My dad was a hippy, a junky and an alcoholic for many years and as a result in now residing in an irish hospital waiting for a liver transplant. He's a very bitter man full of remorse and regret. Regret for the way he wasted his life, regret for the way he lost his wife to drugs (my mum), the way he lost his kids (me and my brother) to drugs and lost his life to drugs. Basically he blew it and has finally had to face up to the multitude of mistakes he made. He treated my brother and I terribly as well as a lot of other people and is now paying the price.

He's a spiritual man, his guru is a man called gurumaji (some of you may have heard of him, his 'followers' are called premmy's (not sure how you spell it)). Anyway the point is he is spiritual but not religious.

I went over to Ireland to visit him just before christmas as I received a phone call telling me if I had anything to say to him I'd better get over there and say it as he was on his way out. When I arrived he was gushing remorse and apologising for everything he had done (which he had never managed before even though I had given him multiple opportunities). He didn't die, in fact quite the opposite, he seemed to improve. The doctor said to me that he had made a miraculous recovery and that they were now going to offer him a liver transplant, which they had previously said they wouldn't do due to him refusing one for the last 7 years and now being to far gone.

I phoned the hospital to visit him the next day and was turned away with no explanation, the next day I tried again and was told to come in at which point I was greeted by an ecstatic/manic/bonkers dad who was ranting about an experience he had had. He explained it to me as a dream, it went something like this:

He was stood at the edge of a chasm and his god asked him if he wanted to die, he said yes and the voice told him to take a step over the chasm, so he did. Once he started falling he realised he didn't want to die and was literally wrenched back to the top of the chasm, at which point his god told him that this was his one and only chance, he said you don't get a second one, this is it... and he woke up.

I spoke to a specialist a few hours later who pulled me aside and told me had had 3 seizures the previous day and had died twice within a few minutes, at one point he was gone for 6 minutes or so before they got him back and they were extremely surprised when they did.

What I found interesting is that he has died a few times over the last few years with complications associated with massive drug and alcohol abuse and the fact he had hep c, a failing liver and tuberculosis, but had never had an NDE... I guess this really was it and he got a second chance.

ok not so short after all... I hope I contributed and didn't bore anyone or distract from the op.

Happy Birthday to you!

When your spirit and soul exit the body you are in (for the final time) you already know what is going to happen to you....that is a wonderful gift.

Hi MrPerplexed and Happy Birthday!

I must compliment you on your style of writing...very smooth and articulate. I was also fascinated by the description of your experience -- it confirms something I have felt (or rather, not felt) all of my life: that this is just a temporary visit and that dying is nothing more than 'going home'. I have no fear of it and never have...in fact, I believe I will welcome it when it comes...many others have had the same 'hesitation' when offered the option to return to the land of the 'living'.

I have had one OBE many moons ago and recall the same feeling of...almost regret that I was back in my body. I wanted to go, to leave.

Free Bird is one of my favorite songs of all time...perhaps that is why...because we are all free spirits who will fly again one day. How high and for how long might depend on how well we learn our lessons while here.

Thanks for sharing your remarkable story and may you have many more happy years before you fly again (how does hearing that song affect you now when you hear it? Just curious).

Namaste.

Thank you for taking the time to share your story. I rarely comment on posts however after having the opportunity to see through your minds eye i feel compelled express my appreciation. It, to me appears as though you have certainly retained the "cognitive reasoning/awareness" gifted to you through this. I wish i could appreciate the true insights you now possess.

Thanks again.

Cool story. I was in an accident 5 years ago but I didn't flat line. I suffered a little bleeding of the brain and cracked skull. But I have never been the same, negativity has taken over but not won. I think it is the 20 or so hours I don't remember including minutes befor the wreck that has me. I never lost consciousness before in my life and that blankness has haunted me. I'm glad you made it and had a cool story to tell.

Hi DoubleDutch.

I read your posting with great interest. What struck me is that you, like me have animosity toward a parent due to alcoholism.

Without knowing you I can already tell you that you have felt remorse about wishing one of your parents gone, or at a minimum choosing a parent if one were to go away....

Please know that I Identify with you post and want to tell you there is a happier path you can take....

I am available to chat anytime... I want to assure you this has nothing to do with Jesus or any religion.. Just clarity on a situation I know all too welll

I hope to hear from you....

I noticed that you have avoided any particular religious references.

How has the experience colored your view of the religious, or has it at all?

Hi Chr0naut-

You have asked a very important questoin that shouldnt be ignored...

Please private message me to discuss the details of my thought on that... I dont want to publicly broadcast my feelings.

Hi GreenIrish...

Irony abounds... If you asked me what song was playiing weeks after it happened i couldnt tell you, but maybe a year later I heard it for the first time and I not only instantly knew, but I know the moment we crashed and the song went outl...

I verified this with another surviror of the crash and he also know the second in the song we crashed....

TO answer your uestion that is the only symbolism..I remember the moment, as it is every time I hear the song...

in the last solo aftter, wont you flyyyy freee biiirdd" Then like 10 seconds pof guitar solo, and BAM!!!

Contrary to popular belief, it is impossible to revive someone once they have flatlined. The use of resusitation through electric forces in only used in hospitals if there is an extremely weak heart beat, not a complete flat line. Unlike in TV shows and movies, once someone has flatlined, doctors stop working on the patient and anounce the time of death.

Hi mrperplexed

I am really surprised that you picked up on my animosity towards my dad, whilst writing I was specifically trying not to bring my own emotions into this conversation as it wasn't relevant... It's really interesting that you picked up on the fact I was thinking this whilst writing it. Even more interesting is what you said about feeling remorse about wishing one of your parents gone... I did not mention this in my post, but you are spot on.

I have sent you a u2u and hope continue our conversation

Well that's a challenge. Now my mind is filled with a thousand questions.... I would certainly be open to any insights you'd care to share that your experience, and the passing of time since, has revealed to you that wouldn't necessarily be within the realms of my experience to ponder.

In short, what have you always wanted to be asked.

I always like to hear about people's NDE stories. It's strange how people interpret it in different ways and the emotional journey you described is just fascinating.
