Because a lot of the time, they do have genuinely good ideas, which is a big part of their appeal. The definition of a cult doesn't have anything to do with their ideology. It has to do with their organisational structure, and whether or not abusive psychology is used to convert or retain members.

So, I don't post a lot on here, and usually when I do, it's not on something terribly important, or serious. I'm at a loss for words right now, and I couldn't find any other thread (or really anything relevant on google) on the matter.
Some guy, who is a mutual friend, added me a couple of weeks ago on Facebook (I don't add random people, but mutual friends are a different story), and tonight, he messaged me. He asked if I wanted to join the new light. I asked him what that was, and this was his explanation:

This was just really weird/interesting, and I thought I'd share. Maybe the New Light is a cult? Because it's definitely not fitting the description of the New Light I found on google/wikipedia lol.

It's not "a cult that everyone is joining". It's a secret organization that just wants you to over hear them and have people ask you if you're in a cult so you go "look for it". So, you're doing exactly what they want you to.

OP- everyone is becoming psychic. They can communicate word for word without using their mouths. You cant. They view people who cant as expendible and thats why people are telling you to ignore it. You are not part of the "cult" you describe and will never be. The reason you caught onto it was because it was not determined by intelligence. Some of them are actually really stupid. It may mean you will most likely die before 12-21-12 and they dont want you to know you are about to die in a few months.
