What do they know about the Pegusus Bay Fault?
Absolutely nothing!

Keeping in mind there was a Mag 6 something off New Brighton at 6:30am on the 4th August 1895 not more than 20km NE of the December 23rd New Brighton one, there is some history, so either
they aren't releasing all the information they have
or
they really don't know

even a layman could see the potential for more quakes offshore after the 2011 July Redcliffs/Taylors Mistake quake where all the aftershocks went NE, NW and SE off the coast.

They have certainly known about the deformation in the Marlborough and southward Kaikoura and Pegasus Bay faults for a while Muzzy - here's just one report from 1996 that mentions the fault and I've seen several others.
