Personally i think the F-14 is Iran's best jet against western fighters. It has a very good radar and can fire missiles that have a greater reach.

With the reach of the F-14 radar and missiles. Iran can use two weapons against western fighters at once in a war theater. Iran can use ground to air and their jets at the same time without the risk of targeting their own jets.

Iran's smaller jets would probably be used to force western fighters to fly at a much lower altitude, so that they can be targeted and chased by ground units. Iranian jets would probably be used as bate so that ground force can take care of business.

Or Iran could distract western jets by first targeting western jets with ground lock, forcing the jets to scatter. Then Iranian jets can single out and attack the jets wading missile lock. It would be like a lion singling out pray from the herd.
