The bill would only allow a military commander to order a settler off land if there is a final court order based on evidence issued by a court authorized to deal with land issues.

I always wondered how the land is titled, deeded and certified to a true and rightful owner.

How has official land "ownership" changed in Israel since the old Ottoman days ?

We see Jewish settlers moving in and out.

Now we see the Israeli government considering court orders before any forced evictions.

What documents actually provide the proof ?
(Would old Ottoman or British documentaion count ?)

Did the original establishment of the Israeli State change anything from the "old days".

Did the 1948 wars give some kind of automatic ownership to anyone ?

What do land titles look like in Israel ?

Is everything done by legal documents, or does some "religious" details enter in.

... .Israel bill to force Palestinians to prove ownership over land used for West Bank outposts

Cabinet members are facing pressure to approve proposed legislation that would curtail the eviction of Jewish settlers from land that is purportedly owned by individual Palestinians by requiring a court ruling based on specific evidence of land ownership.

Members of the Ministerial Committee for Legislation are considered the bill today to decide whether the coalition will support it. The legislation would only allow a military commander to order a settler off land if there is a final court order based on evidence issued by a court authorized to deal with land issues.

The bill's sponsors said they introduced the bill after settlers' homes were demolished at the unauthorized West Bank outpost of Migron, and the Palestinians who claimed to be that land's rightful owners failed to prove actual ownership. The legislation's sponsors include coalition chairman Zeev Elkin (Likud), Yaakov Katz (National Union) and David Rotem (Yisrael Beiteinu).

I wonder if they have Title Insurance companies in Israel

Some people might view this legislation as anti-Palestinian

Peace Now director Yariv Oppenheimer said the proposed law would allow anyone to grab land for a permanent settlement and bar an immediate eviction.

Suggesting fraud ?

Hmmm...

This is horrible, but not surprising

And of course the timing is great:

Israeli-Palestinian Peace Talks: Jordan To Host Meeting

Anytime peace might be around the corner, Israel has to throw the process a curve ball.

We all know a freeze on settlement expansions is one of the required conditions for peace talks.
