The pie chart of Sweden distributed income rather than wealth. The other two charts, "Equality" and "US Wealth Distribution" measured owned property, where as the swedish chart measured income. This is an example of how thinking gets muddled. If people were choosing the middle path then the chart of sweden''s wealth distribution (ownership) would have got similar results because it is in between the two extemes. So why did the study use a misleading image?

Notice that the wealth distributions betweeb Sweden and the US are much more similar than the study insinuated

Swedish Wealth

Swedish Income (used in the article)

The distrubution of wealth at the botttom is alarming and signals the end of individual liberty in our civilization. You can't have liberty if everything you need comes from the people making the rules.

No one I know wants wealth redistribution. We just don't want people sucking up more than is necessary to fill their addiction sucking up the M1 supply in the process. Unworthy and uneven talents allow this process.

BUT the federalist papers make it clear that "International Commerce" was to foot the bills for the country. Which means heavy duty taxes on those folks in exchange for the security provided.

They knew how to handle "corporationists" thanks to the mighty screwing King George's brown nosers did to the colonies.

I know what you mean. I think the system should have collapsed already. The financial sector has gained alot more power since the 1930's. Possibly they own everything today, in the sense that they can "print" enough money to buy everything on the planet. They will try to make the crash go in a way that increases their control and unless they make a mistake, their plan will probably succeed.

Thank you for all the responses. Yes, I think "wealth redistribution" might not be the right idea, but I do agree with many who have voiced concerns over how little workers are getting paid for jobs these days in comparison to inflation, and the fact that each family needs to have two working parents just to get by is ridiculous. In a way, I think the type of wealth redistribution that would function here is not the government taking it away, but rather the government regulating a) how much money people should be making and ensuring they get paid that (minimum wage is BS, remember that thread about Australian minimum wage and how it's something like 15 USD per hour?) and b) regulating outsourcing. Because of outsourcing, corporations are allowed to pay US workers less and less and less but still make giant profits, which is a reason why workers are failing to keep up with the super rich these days and jobs have been disappearing.

And thanks for very few of you going crazy about "socialism" and "capitalism"! It's nice to have an intelligent conversation about economics and be able to consider both sides of the issue without having people being insulting and rude.

Think you summed it up nicely.....I know no one that wants a dollar they haven't earned....We, and I mean all of us, want that feeling to look in the mirror each morning, go off to work and feel good that we can earn a dollar to provide adequately for our families....

Think about all the screaming in government, any time a bailout is bulked-there is screaming, any time minimum wage is to be raised-there is screaming, any time regulating corporations is talked about-there is screaming.....Come on, the screaming is the fat lobbyists defending their clients....But we the people do not have a single lobbyist sitting there saying- "you know, this is really bad for the majority of the population"....Which I am a little rusty on my political science, but isn't that the definition of a Democracy?

This is like, want to know the truth follow the money. In this case, who benefits most from "stupidity" and ignorance? Answer that question and you have the people responsible for the degradation of our educational system, the elimination of the Middle Class and destruction of our industrial infrastructure.
I once wrote to an author, that if there was a communist conspiracy to destroy America. They would start by infiltrating our teacher colleges and universities. Where they could influence the teachers of America. Eventually, the children are so ignorance or brainwashed with stupid theories and statements, they are unable to make decisions to protect themselves or the nation. Want an example, the Southern attitude about Unions. The typical southern child is slowly indoctrinated with the idea that Unions are bad. The Union would protect the incompetent and encourage the blacks, to dream. The "right" people would become the underdogs in a unionized State.
However, there are other people closer to home then the "Reds" and Communists, etc, that would benefit from the having the general population get dumb. They are assisted by what were called "fellow travelers," people unaware of the conspiracy, but helping it as it benefited their personal interests. You decide who benefits from a dumb population.

It all comes down to a simple observation about political parties. Regardless of the name and platform, their are exactly two kinds of politicians. Those that want to control you, and those with no such intention.
