Israel is not bullying anyone, but hamas sure is bullying israel when they fire hundreds of homemade rockets into israel and then israel gets accused of trying to defend itself without having to do a full scale land intrusion which would cost both sides big time.

Saudi arabia maybe full of islamic fundamentalists and an alqueda hotbed, but the saudi prince is friendly enough with the west and sells us plenty of oil.

Pakistan and india is a battle of religious fundamentalism, much like the middle east, and suprisiingly no one really cares about it.

North korea and cuba are isolated and hardely bother anyone.

By the way, you mentioned helicopters as a weapon against sea targets; although Saudi, UAE,and Kuwait all have Boeing Apache AH-64D attack helicopters, the US Navy has none (they are US Army assets) and, in any event, are not designed for marine operations (although they do have an excellent littoral capability).

No the navy does not fly the AH-64D.
The navy flies the Marine AH-1W SuperCobra attack helicopter.

Russia is saying dont mess with Iran, if iran gets invaded it couuld go nuclear. If the US loses a carrier, it was fair game. If the US tries to destroy irans mainland expect DC to get nuked and NYC. Do you think it is worth having NYC and DC nuked over irans supposed nuclear weapons?

Also if the US navy attacked iran, of course Iran would take them out. Do you really expect Iran to idly sit by and take a beating by the US Navy? Of course Iran would think it is worth it if the US attacks them.

The USA fought many wars in far away countries....so far away that the enemy was never able to fight in the US soldiers homeland. But I think times have changed and should the US not underestimate some far away enemies.

Sleeper cells and missing nukes....that is the nightmare scenario. I think the US should be carefull with who it is picking a fight....

911 is an example of such a fight brought to the US-soldiers homeland. Although I personally do not believe 911 was an act of a foreign millitairy or terrorist force. But such and worse devistation can become reality when an enemy is underestimated.

The outcome of simulated war games depend heavily on what information the computer has to work with. If the enemy has a secret weapon the simulation will be nothing more than wishfull thinking.

My last ship was the USS O'Kane DDG77 yes we're actually equipped to deal with air and surface threats. We have a nice sonar and we can launch a few MK-46's but with our awesome SPY series radars we're closer to air dominance up to knocking out satellites and ICBM's than sub hunters. We also carry a a ton of Tomahawk's my ship launched 21 into Iraq with 3 raytheon refunds. Also the Arleigh Burke class looks like a 50 foot long trawler on radar with the IR signature to match.

Yeah but they are getting annoyed about america and europe cornering the markets and leaving them short-handed. All the super powers need natural resources such as oil, gas, gold, silver, iron, aluminum, etc.

The east has been friendly with the middle eastern dictators because they exchange weapons for natural resources. Both china and russia are looking like cowards the more the west continues on its middle eastern crusade.

Everything could possibly be solved by removing the security council from the UN and just accepting a simple majority vote on future action/inaction. Most of the corruption stems from big business dictating policy to the western governments. Even russia and china have succombed to global capitalism with hardely any restraints.

We need an economy based on resource output rather than greed driven profit. Capitalism is the disease and socialism is the cure. At least in my opinion!

Hmm. Interesting scenario. However, you assume that the Navy will not, you know, take the results into account.

Perhaps the US will make use of its powerful submarine fleet as a vanguard. Perhaps they will use satellites to locate Iranian ships. If Google Earth can see my car from orbit, I think the frakking US military can pick up a damn speedboat.

And even IF Iran succeeded in taking out an American carrier group, the US would likely follow up with a major conventional attack. No need for nukes - just start blowing the crap out of the Revolutionary Guard.

I believe that the straits narrow passage and the gulf will limit the movement of the task force and make it vunerable. I have to laugh at some of the responses. The neocon fascists are funny with their nuke talk. I never saw combat in the USMC and I fell left out in a way. That said, The American firepower in the gulf is great and I really don't think our soliders could fight if they didn't have it ....

the vets in our recent terror wars have not seen the kind of combat they did in wwII, Korea or Vietnam and that makes the a world of difference!

Ill agree that they are likely getting annoyed, but I wont agree with the OP when he suggested that if a conflict started between the US and Iran, Russia would get involved and nuke DC and NYC.... I just dont understand where people get this stuff at... It doesnt make any sense...
