I Hate New Years Eve

Am I alone in this? As a disclaimer, let me say I am 22 years old and I have plenty of big events I could go to with mates. It's not that I'm socially awkward or anything but to be honest, this year I just cannot be bothered with it.

Every single New Years Eve party ends up being a drag, or at least that's how its been the past 4 or so years for me. Yeah, you get drunk. Yeah, you're with 'friends', but really - I always just end up feeling isolated as I'm the only person there that isn't having the time of my life.

To me, New Years Eve is like an average night out except:

1) It's overcrowded
2) It's overpriced
3) It's a massive logistical mission getting to and from the event.

For these reasons (and more), I would rather go on a normal night out than indulge in some fantasist New Year Nightmare.

Perhaps this is my fault, as I cannot bear to dance frantically to the sound of mainstream garbage 'music' - which everyone else in my age bracket seems to love doing. It may also be my fault that I am not one of those guys that runs around with a permanent grin tattooed across my face yelling 'Hey! I'm a fun loving guy! I just gotta have that fun! Everything is fun to me! Hey ladies, lets have fun dancing to David Guetta! Work it girl!'

For some more background - I do like to have fun lol, but New Years events are not my idea of fun. I also love to drink, but I don't like to be wasted in public. In private or in small groups of very close friends, that's another story.

The whole New Year's resolution thing is a also sham - why make one promise to yourself (that you're bound to break) rather than trying to improve yourself every single day of your life? And why on earth, hypothetically speaking, do people place such great emphasis on pointless events?

It's the equivalent of having a 'Driving Day' where everybody with a car hits the roads at the exact same time. Or tries to fit into the same car, while a drunk guy takes the wheel. I'd rather just drive on a normal road on a normal day.

Also, time may possibly be a valid measurement in physics but in my book, the Gregorian calendar is way off. Hence, New Years Eve isn't as important as one might think.

I don't know about you guys, call me the grinch if you must. But I, for one, am seriously considering a quiet night in this time. Who's with me?

The End.

P.S. Don't get me started on birthdays

Do what you want to do.

Stop looking at what others do, it is your life.

This might seem like a really stupid comment to you at the moment, but when you learn more from life experience you will understand.

Then again it might not, regardless, I mean this as an honest reply to you without anything else other than some goodwill as I realise it might sound condescending which is not my intention.

It was not meant to rhyme but it did at the time

Yea i hear ya buddy ,

solution?

some beers , drinks at your place and order an escort .

You will have a great new years , get laid , get wasted , count down with a stranger , and have a real happy ending
All from the comfort of your home ? Come on now , it couldn't have been easier

also you have to understand for the masses , who are just taxed live stock .

Need days like new years as another excuse to drink , They love working there butts of to poison them selfs to the illusion of booze lol.

THey enjoy , they love it , because its one of the few things our masters allows em

Maybe find something in between "the big happening of the evening" and "a quiet night at home?"

Since you're a guy who likes to have a good time, but not interested in the obnoxious party traffic jams. Sounds to me like you're just growing up and not desperate for chaos anymore - if you ever were. I know I was, and still sometimes am

I say find a good Irish pub, drink some whisky and good beers and enjoy some good company. After all it's your night as much as anyone else's

You misinterpret me, or perhaps I didn't communicate it efficiently. I'm not looking at what others do as a basis for how I act.. If I was, I would go and join the party. That is part of my point. I was merely interested in what other people think of New Years.

I personally don't have time for it!

Haha sounds like a brilliant plan, perhaps the best NY plan I've ever heard. The only problem is, I'm on holiday staying with the family - not sure if they'd be as happy to receive my guest

A pub or a blues bar would be nice! Just need to rally the troops together, they will need convincing. I shall bring the New New Years Manifesto with me.

I hear you.

What I am saying is that instead of feeling as you do, just do as you feel.

Its not easy to put into words. What you are doing is giving attention to something that you think is not correct.

It will only hinder your own enjoyment if you do that because when you finally do something you want to do in (this case for new year) you are doing it out of spite of others which is blackening your own feelings or thoughts and will not be as enjoyable as it could be.

I think pretty much the same way - I'd rather enjoy myself when I feel like it and preferably far away from crowds of drunken strangers.

Same for New Year's Resolutions too, if someone sees something that needs fixing - do it straight away. Don't wait for a new year.

BUT - there's something sad about being alone on New Year's Eve and I can't quite put my finger on why. I can take or leave Christmas, preferably leave actually, but I'd like to have a bit of company at New Year.

i can remember a couple of New Year's Eves when my housemate wouldn't even get off the sofa to wish me a Happy New Year - miserable sod. I used to kiss the dog, though

Whatever you do New Year's Eve sets the tone for the coming year. If you get drunk, crash your car and get arrested, you probably won't have a good year, for example.

I don't generally have any probs with New Years, but this year I will be working from 2011 to 2012.
Night porter in a Hotel, most likely providing peeps with their news years drinks.

I don't think I can bare it.

I'm going to my local rock pub where no one is a stranger and we are all dressing up like St Trinians.
It shall be a lark.
