Small, two-man portable, or truck-portable, tactical weapons (sometimes misleadingly referred to as suitcase nukes), such as the Special Atomic Demolition Munition and the Davy Crockett recoilless rifle, have been developed, although the difficulty of combining sufficient yield with portability could limit their military utility.

On the night of 31 August 1939, a small group of German operatives, dressed in Polish uniforms and led by Naujocks, seized the Gleiwitz station and broadcast a short anti-German message in Polish (sources vary on the content of the message). The Germans' goal was to make the attack and the broadcast look like the work of anti-German Polish saboteurs.
To make the attack seem more convincing, the Germans brought in Franciszek Honiok, a German Silesian known for sympathizing with the Poles, who had been arrested the previous day by the Gestapo. Honiok was dressed to look like a saboteur; then killed by lethal injection, given gunshot wounds, and left dead at the scene, so that he appeared to have been killed while attacking the station. His corpse was subsequently presented as proof of the attack to the police and press.
In addition to Honiok, several other prisoners from the Dachau concentration camp were kept available for this purpose. The Germans referred to them by the code phrase "Konserve" ("canned goods"). For this reason, some sources incorrectly refer to the incident as "Operation Canned Goods."
The Gleiwitz incident was a part of a larger operation, carried out by Abwehr and SS forces. At the same time as the Gleiwitz attack, there were other incidents orchestrated by Germany along the Polish-German border, such as house torching in the Polish Corridor and spurious propaganda output. The entire project, dubbed Operation Himmler and comprising 21 incidents in all, was intended to give the appearance of Polish aggression against Germany.
For months prior to the 1939 invasion, German newspapers and politicians like Adolf Hitler accused Polish authorities of organizing or tolerating violent ethnic cleansing of ethnic Germans living in Poland.
On the day following the Gleiwitz attack, 1 September 1939, Germany launched the Fall Weiss operation — the invasion of Poland — initiating World War II in Europe. On the same day, in a speech in the Reichstag, Adolf Hitler cited the 21 border incidents, with three of them called very serious, as justification for Germany's "defensive" action against Poland. Just a few days earlier, on 22 August, he had told his generals, "I will provide a propagandistic casus belli. Its credibility doesn't matter. The victor will not be asked whether he told the truth."

I hear a lot of crap about what America's doing. What about the Iranians? From every thing I see their just as responsible for fanning this fire. Why can't they be the bigger men and stand down? Seems to me that their suffering hard from a Napoleon complex. And also. I'm tired of every one speaking about Americans like were down in the dumps eating out of trash cans no electricity poor. Thats bull #. Just because we're paying 3.50 for a gallon of gas. I know between my wife and I we bring in well under the avg home income yet here I am sitting in front of a computer widescreen to the right of me and my wife sitting at her computer. We have a roof over our heads, a car in the drive way, food in the fridge, running water, and cellphones in our pockets. I think to much of this generation expects to have the best of every thing just provided to them. If you want more save. If you want fun learn to go without other things. I'd love to see any one who posts about how poor Americans are to go check out some 4th world country and see what real poor is. Just because u can't have every thing you want when you want it doesn't mean your hopelessly poor. Any way get off the I hate my country band wagon and do something about it.

The US navy confirmed on Thursday the aircraft carrier John C. Stennis had indeed headed for the Gulf of Oman, accompanied by guided-missile cruiser Mobile Bay and several other vessels. But that was “a pre-planned, routine transit” as the group was to provide air support to allied troops in Afghanistan, said Lt. Rebecca Rebarich, the spokesperson for the US Fifth Fleet.

I'm curious as to what the "John C. Stennis" has on board. All i can guess is that it houses several fight jets (being an air craft carrier after all). Is there a possibility of it housing more destructive weapons? Long range missilies? Possibly even portable tactical nukes? I'm simply asking what weaponry it is known to carry on board.
I can't say i am surprised in the slightest at this event though, we must have all seen this coming... In the ex-text above it mentions "routine transit"... i think is a bit of a lie to cover their true reason.
Really... with all this action of talk happening around this specific area in the world, i think it is more than a coincidence the US have turned up here with perfect timing...
I'm going to assume to US is hoping for Iran to initiate some kind of pre-emptive strike out of fear to defend itself. Iran is smarter than that, and if this is the US' "plan" it is not going to work.

"Closing the Strait of Hormuz for Iran's armed forces is really easy ... or, as Iranians say, it will be easier than drinking a glass of water," Habibollah Sayyari told the country's English language Press TV. "But right now, we don't need to shut it as we have the Sea of Oman under control, and we can control the transit."
The nearly $30 billion sale to Saudi Arabia of advanced-model U.S. F-15 fighter jets and associated weapons systems had been planned for more than a year.

Iran is stupid for getting that close to the Carrier Stennis although the U.S. navy is respecting Iran's rights to the water way

A Nimitz class Super Carrier. There is a difference. Iran is stupid for getting that close to the Carrier Stennis although the U.S. navy is respecting Iran's rights to the water way, air lanes as well or the Stennis could have enacted the normal 125 mile buffer zone around the carrier and blown the whole Iranian navy out of the area.
Really this is nothing new. U.S. carriers transit the Persian Gulf all the time and if the U.S. planed to attack the Stennis would be hidden from easy view and nothing but friendly planes would be allowed in the 125 miles no fly zone.
The Stennis has an inner defense perimeter that the Iranians have been allowed to play in because of the tight quarters of the straight. One word from the captain and Sea Sparrow with 20mm Phalanx CIWS will drop or sink everything it deems a threat.
