If you were moving 20,000 mph when you jumped off the cliff gravity would not increase your speed, the atmosphere would slow you more than gravity would increase you. Try it! Don't just pick the part of physics that have more influence on a given set of circumstances. That's called cherry picking, anyone can survive cherry picking.
