Into nothingness we throw a stone,
seeking answers in the ripple of time

and through eyes of a serpent, a thousand questions
before a solitary wine glass shatters
amid the painful harmony of lonely music

Outlined in the dirt, footsteps of a man unseen
Are you not my colleague, and am I not your friend?

The flight of the bullet, the arc of the baseball,
the softly ticking hand of a clock, eternal.

From bitter redemption to simple betrayal,
gun-smoke and death carried by an ocean breeze.

Our world's destruction, reflected in a pair of black sunglasses,
observing, knowing, unaffected.

A drop of rain on a shoulder, signifying life.

Drifting weightless amid a billion stars,
this is not a dream.

And then, the warm radiance of sunshine
and freshly cut grass
the sweetness of hope.

Anticipation of a new universe
Our true home beckons, and we return to open arms.

My first attempt at something resembling poetry. It is what it is.
