This year, we had literaly thousands of predictions and doomsday threads.

From `ive a bad feeling about this date` to `omg obama will be in denver and sunflares`, to elenin, to `tsunami youtube warning for such a date` etc, youve all seen them, there were practically hundreds of these kind of threads

As usual. not a single one of them came to pass, and not a single one of these thread makers apologised.
They just quietly dissapeared and moved onto the next thread.
They had no problem posting lots of their `im just putting this out there that the 23rd to 28th are the dates to watch out for blah blah blah` but as soon as it comes to owning up that maybe they were wrong, well they ride off into the sunset

Its almost like its some kind of fetish, to have their monthly dose of fearmongering.

To those thread starters and fear mongers! i say SHAME ON YOU!
keep your predictions, and `bad feelings about such and such a date` to yourself!
We are tired of your stupid predictions.

Might wanna check through my posts a bit to see how much has transpired since the creation.

With Love,

Your Brother

I agree with you, BUT the problem goes deeper doesnt it? Some Religious texts also say that the world will end etc so some people who believe in these Religions are making sure that their book is right and bringing about the end of the world.
I believe in Humanity I dont think we will destroy ourselves but I do fear that religious nutters may just try to do it just to prove their book right.
Heck some of them even seem to relish it...

Don't worry they will be back this year to give us their new prediction.

I marked the 25th down and nothing happened.

Why am I not surprised.

No it's true none came to pass, but I remember one member actually DID say he was wrong and apologized.
Can't remember the name, but it stuck out out to me since he was the ONLY person I have seen to do this on ATS.

Oh goodness. I fear this is the calm before the storm. The quiet of predawn. There are thousands of people out there as we sit here talking that are sweating 2012 and looking for a place to vent and share their fears. At one point or another over the coming year, ATS is likely to see every last one of them, at least once.

Y2K was just a minor distraction. This is the big Kahuna people have been dreading for decades. It's the ultimate in doom porn and the mother of all hurricane parties at the end. We haven't seen anything yet. Not even a warm up.

It´s almost like it´s some kind of fetish, to have their monthly dose of whining, about stuff that noone forces them to read, and is in a dedicated forum.

So you are always right when you don´t believe thse predictions, is the satisfaction of that not enough for you, and do you need the right of free speach removed all together from these predictorrrs?

Why does it have to be like that?

I cant say that I've made any of these posts that you refer to, but freedom of speech, so much that the mods allow, is simply that. I cant say that I read all of them... I pick and choose. If I dont like it.. I move on. If I have an interest in the topic but I dont agree with the OP, then I can say so. IF I HAVE AN INTEREST. Otherwise, I suppose I would be the kinda guy that makes posts just to hash on other peoples posts.

But... of course, you have your right, just as much as they, by the same rules.

I get that there is alot of nonsense out there. Some of it's fun to read, some of it isnt. Why bother? ATS is for more than just one kind of people, apparently. If it weren't so, there might not be so many differing opinions. Some people like cars.. Some people like trucks.. some people like to walk.

I even laugh, put my face in my hands, roll my eyes, and smirk at alot of diffrent posts here. All I can say is, it would be cool to have a star system for both agreeing and dissagreeing. That would be neat.

I say let them have their crazy beliefs, and crazy stories... wouldnt it be crazy if some of them might at least be half right? Just not seeing the whole picture? That's where we come along. I refrence stuff all the time, alot of it BS, but you can find interesting stuff in total BS sometimes.

Sure, I'd like to see more facts, sometimes false hopes play, but who cares. It's just another day in ATS. I'd like to see alot of the childishness go away, but I feel, at the same time, they have just as much right. I just hope they at least learn SOMETHING out of being around so many people of differing opinions.

So I would say to you as you say to them.. give it a rest.

"WE" are not all in agreement. Obviously.

I like the 2012 posts... those are creepy. Alot of us say something is around the corner.. we just dunno what. I enjoy seeing others opinions. I feel my mind is strong enough to know not to jump head first into nonsense. All the lil fail predictions and conspiracies.. well, you cant win every time, or we would have been gone a long time ago.

Well... Guess I spewed a bit much of my opinion. Sorry, long winded

Besides.. I'd like to think that i'm not so low to demand an apology from someone over nonsense. That's kinda harsh.

I realize it is not a popular theory but I do believe in the butterfly effect. There have been many threads for "dooms day" that have not come to fruition, but does it prove they were wrong when it does not happen? It could be as simple as posting a warning to change plans and that which is planed is abandoned. Were they wrong? Yes, but only because they posted it in public. Obviously this does not happen or work all the time but can you actually deny the possibility that it does and we are not aware of the full actions taking place?

I agree don't send people looking for the end of days, Kool-ade, people get too depressed hearing about the mayan myth, the mothership is park and waiting storys, if its your opinion that and or about a certain date, an event might happen fine, but to make it sound is gospel that upsets people, when i saw the movie 2012, i saw very long, and unsure faces, Some say learn the science, like people now are learn weather pattens on land at sea the shipping companys avoid big stroms with their GPS, unless some one sees a horrific event, in a vision than it is an opinion. Dec, 21, 2012 is a social change, in there time line not the world timeline, learn the prehistory of the mayan people that leads up to that date, plus the scribe who carved the stone ran out of space for 2013. And home for a good smoke,

I think what it boils down to is people just "know" something isn't right. I feel it but damned if I can attribute it to one single event or possible event. I just know something is really, seriously wrong.

At a loss to describe it or pinpoint it we scenario build. Anxiety ridden we seem to be these days so there are any number of "deaths" we can experience and prepare for.

Some find the "end" in religious texts, some find it in dreams, news articles, conspiracy theories....what have you...in the end it's all based on an internal "knowing" that as a race...we're very likely doomed. How and when should be the real question.
