Somethings up with venus

Well I found something strange this moring with venus. What looks like a solar flare is clearly seen exting its atmosphere. I dont have a idea of what would be causing this or what it could be. Im also prettysure its not a regular thing for a planet to have what seems to be a solar flare type event in which a larger portion of the planets atmosphere is ejected into space. Hopefully somebody more knowledgeable then myself can shed some light on what we are seeing or if its really a unkown event. good day to you all!!

wow great find! Not sure what to say, maybe some amateur astronomers/ owners of telescopes can take a look to Venus tight now?

Which object is Venus (sorry I don't know much about it)

I'm assuming the object on the right is supposed to be Venus, but how can we confirm this? I've been looking around the site trying to find some confirmation of what those images are of and haven't found it yet.

hey, just looking back, the comet passed by on 25th :

Not sure if this passing was really as close as it looks in the pictures.
Possible explanation : some form of fragments from this comet crashed on Venus. I could be totally wrong but this is the first thing crossing my mind.

ps: Venus is the light ball on the right of the image.

Wow...almost looks like something collided with the planet...

I'm no expert on heavenly bodies...will wait for the experts to arrive.

I observed Venus last night. Was a great site next to the crescent moon. I did not see anything out of the ordinary visually.

I'll take another look this evening.

Equipment used:
Zhumell 12" Dobsonian telescope f/4.93
Primary mirror: 304.8mm
Zhumell 16mm 2" EP Barlowed 2X, 100 degree field of view

My best guess would be it has to be some sort of lense flare. Though what we are seeing looks very defined in the picture. My a lingering piece of that comet that passed on the 25th did hit the planet.

We will have to wait for a few more days when the hi-res pictures will be available..

I've noticed venus is very bright in the early evenings before it sets here.
Much brighter than usual,
Brighter than saturn.
But it wasn't like that last year. Possibly something in the atmosphere?

If it's the object on the left, do you mean the bright line going through it? If so, it could be that the camera was aimed toward it and it's from it being so bright. I get the same sort of effect when I take a photo aimed directly at the sun....

Sorry OP.. thought you were refering to something you seen yourself, outside looking up.

I have no explination, but great find! Very interesting to say the least.

The Venus flare comes from the "behind" sat. Not sure exactly where the position is, this would explain why all looks normal from earth-faced observers . It does not look like a flare to me however we will keep speculating till we have better resolution pictures available.

The better res. comes within 2-3 days. It could be that something hit Venus, something travelling along with the comet LoveJoy? Nothing impossible, lets wait and see!
