I don't think the articles were suggesting that Obama would sign legislation to that effect. They were looking at the UN Human Rights Commission to present the policies to the world and dare the US to not agree.

Maybe I have a misguided view of the world, but there must be legislation passed by the US congress in order for any action to be taken on the US population. So the UN can say anything they want, but until I see legislation flowing through DC I will not fret too much. It is important, although, to notice the "power" the UN can have over US policy.

I suspect the worry is that when Methodists take their action to extremes it means hot sauce in the green bean casserole. And that the extremists in some other religions go quite a bit farther. For whatever reason, I don't think people in the US see Christians or Jews as a large source of potential religious violence.

Of course many in America don't see the Judeo-Christians as a threat....simple because most of us are part of that group. It is hard to criticize those that are closest among us. We have to take all of the pertinent circumstances into consideration as to why Islam is perceived as more extreme than we are In America.

America is not being occupied by a massive Islamic force, yet the Middle East has been occupied by "Christian" forces for some time and their governments have been manipulated by our governments for some time. (cia, etc)

Also, it is easy to justify our own religious beliefs and criticize theirs even though the Bible has some similarities to the Islamic book in regards to brutality and barbaric ideologies.

It is my opinion that we must begin to look at the actions of the individual, as each persons motives are born of different origins, and act accordingly. When we begin to lump action with religion...we leave ourselves open to the same criteria. Then we are all screwed by nothing more than guilt by association.

Practice whatever religion all you want. I or nobody else has a right to try and stop you or tell people to kill you.

I will freely berate and make fun of any religious system that I consider backward and outdated and detrimental to other neighbouring societies or indeed religions.

Thats just it.. You just do not get it... There are many types of racism... Condeming someone on their culture is no different than condeming someone on the colour of there skin..
So what about when an American racially slurs a candian.. Is that ok becuase Canadian is not a race.. No it is not... Its just the same

Islamic people are not our enemy. Islam is a religion. Yes there are radicals of them, but there are radicals of every religion. So calling islamic people "our enemies" is just plainly ignorant and falsely judgemental. I do not really want to judge, but there were much much worse things christians did. in fact, calling the vatican our enemy would be most appropriate. forgetting the millions of people who were killed in the name of God, the library of the vatican holds vast amount of information of the truth, a truth which they've been trying to eradicate from the very beginning, a truth, which should be uncovered for the sake of the human race. The whole idea of christianity was to keep the peasants in place and in ignorance. i do not know what the truth is, but what i do is that the whole christianity thing is a lie, pulled over our eyes, to blind us from reality. so to fight ignorance, and to enter into a new, golden era, our first step would be collapsing religion in every way we can possibly do, and demand to uncover the secrets.

of course it isnt common practice amongst muslims you know. Doing that to girls in any non muslim country would be a serious assault and child abuse. Do you think when it happens here anyone outside their family ever gets to know about it?

It is common practice in certain countries. Look it up. They know fine how offensive the rest of us would see it so it isnt an often publicised aspect of this religion and they happily pretend it doesent happen anymore.

Despising a twisted religion isnt racism. Nor is pointing out it's sick traditions. I despise Christians as much as Muslims as they are equally backward in their beliefs in a non existent supernatural deity. Offense is only caused when it's accepted. People can say what they want, it's up to me whether I am offended by it or think logically for a moment and realize that it's one persons opinion.

Where do you draw the line? Can it therefore be deemed "hate speech" if someone posts a comment about ginger people? How about if I decide that I don't like people with Blue eyes?

What if you want to discuss politics but those sites are shut down because the republicans call all the democrats communists, or the democrats label the republicans warmongers?

People have opinions you don't agree with, accept it, deal with it, move on. I can manage to disregard homophobia on the internet, and therefore religious groups should accept that we'll verbally attack them too, and move on!

You could have written the same thing about Christianity, Judaism, Catholicism...

It's not Islam dictating to me that I can't marry my partner, or that I deserve fewer rights than a Christian. It's not Islam controlling the education of kids in our schools. It's not Islam interfering with politics and forcing legislation on the public based on their own ideals. That is all down to Christianity.

I have no doubt that Islamic dominance in a western nation would do the same, but my point is that all organized religions have their flaws and their history. You cannot pick out Islam and proclaim it to be a violent religious belief system without taking note of what every other religious group has done throughout history too.

I would say that if people really want to educate themselves, they talk to moderate Muslims, Christians and whatever other religious group too, and read up on the history of ALL religious groups. Then look at what is happening now.

Don't cherry-pick the best bits to suit your argument.
