Egyptian blogger Alaa Abdel Fattah to be released from prison: report

Prominent Egyptian blogger and activist Alaa Abd El-Fattah is due to be released according to a report in Ahram Online on Sunday which quotes his family members.

The blogger who was thrust to the international spotlight when he was detained on October 30 on charges that included inciting violence during an October attack by the military on Coptic rights protesters created an outcry in Egypt abroad.

1 free, 12000 or so to go. I am happy to hear alaa is being freed from jail. His charges are still pending, but this is a huge victory for the Egyptian people and for free speech in general in the middle east. Now we need to see Amr El Beheyry and everyone else jailed by SCAF let free. What is happening in Tahrir is an atrocity. This is a step in the right direction for freedom of the people of Egypt.
