First off I'm not presenting this article to be factual. Honestly, I'm very skeptical of these claims. I do strongly believe that foreign powers are deeply involved in the Syrian unrest, but I'm not going to fall for just any propaganda piece. I wanted to share this with ATS members and get some opinions.

Syrian citizens have found spy devices in the hills that surround the town of Afrin, in Syria, dropped last week by US aircrafts which entered Syrian airspace through the Turkish border.

Opposition Syrian Website Al-Hakika (The Truth) quoted Turkish sources as confirming the news cited from Syrian Kurds. The sources explained that the aircrafts that dropped the devices were American, not Turkish. They added that the aircrafts took off from Incirlik air base, southeast of Adana, which is 130 km away from the city of Afrin, mainly to belong to the Kurdish nationalists.

The Turkish source said that the dropping of these devices “came after the Syrian authorities' decision to deploy the seventh contingent along the eastern border and south-eastern province of Hatay (Iskenderun Brigade).”

“This action aims at eavesdropping on communications between the Syrian troops, locating their spots accurately and collecting any information about them in order to provide it to U.S. and Turkish authorities, and perhaps to the Syrian Free Army as well as monitoring any military movement by the PKK in the region,” the sources added.

Syrian citizen Adnan Mustafa was the first to publish the news on his page on Facebook, with photographs of the devices found.

I have never seen any devices such as the ones in the picture, have any of you seen anything like this, or are you able to explain what they might be? Perhaps this is a total hoax. Hopefully someone will be able to help figure this out.

If this news is true, it's really not that surprising but in my opinion it surely indicates future plans are in the works. Most likely preparations for some type of intervention.

i'm sure if the content inside is what makes these things tick, then the exterior must not have been much of a worry to the designers, which would take credit away from the supposed American device creators.

I want to say they are made in Turkey because they don't look like anything ever created by Americans before.
they would at least cover it with some nice reflective silver to make it look techy.

which is part of my theory, since the planes came from Turkey, it would be the first conclusion for a lot of people in Syria who come across these things. make them look low tech to not give any impression it's you.

personally never seen anything like these, they look like improvised explosives from Iraq.

You're right, their design isn't very impressive. In fact, the design looks very primitive.

I wouldn't be surprised, I mean America definitely has technology that is advanced for our time, they could probably pinpoint someone's location just by the use of a satellite from space if the person used a cell phone. It's a shame we can never use any of these technologies for peace, but instead, espionage is the way of life now for many of the world's superpowers.

Yes, this is the true product of US,one of world's technological ,scientific and manufacturing leaders. Not Assad propaganda, US planes drops those very sturdy devices (just look at the cleverly non-camuflaged antenna - it surely will not break off if you drop it from a meter height) that blend in in most of Syrian countryside due to weird labels and aforementioned antenna and are extremely small so that no Syrian, nation well known for its ocular problems ,will be able to spot it.
Yup.
I think that Assad is in big problem if his aids feel the need to use THIS.

Looks like wireless doorbells made in Somalia.

Certainly not like American spy devices.

I was thinking it looked like the internal components of a Commodore 64.

Certainly isn't the nano-tech people were implying that was imbedded into that Iranian drone

I thought the US also had access to the UKs GCHQ listening post nearby.. one said to be so sensitive that it reportedly is able to hear planes taking off and landing in Bejing.. Tho I guess any additional information would always be handy to further whatever game is currently being played out...
