This will probably get lost in the hoo-hah about the Canada quake, but I need to post it and move on.
Cracked the Italian INGV web site database today, got interested after the Court Case as to what was actually happening over there
Um well lots actually, got 1380 events just for October and there is still 3 days to go
I was mainly interested in the 5.0 in Calabria the other day,
here is Oct, centred on the 5.0 goo.gl...
zoom out and have a look around, there are little swarms all over the place, L'Aqulla still twitching, as is Emilia-Romagna

I'll go ahead and split those Pollino quakes into fore and after shocks and do a page on it during the week.

Why wouldn't these be listed on the quake sites?? That's really odd to me, but then again, Japan's aren't all listed either (which I do find strange as well)

Does the subduction zone that's got the 9+ potential (you'd think I'd remember its name, being that I've lurked these threads for 3+ years, I've got major mum brain lately) go up that far? Are any of you that are following WCs threads thinking this could be a foreshock or we might see another one at the bottom end near north CA/OR or anywhere further south or is this a different fault entirely? Certainly a big one in an area we don't "usually" see them from!

I noticed these 3 aftershocks are each a little further south than the last. Here's to hoping they don't keep wandering further south or set off the Cascadian

These aftershocks are all over the place location-wise.

Especially considering that the initial Mag 7.7 shows a thrust fault focal mechanism (with a small strike-slip component=oblique thrust).

See what I mean? It will be interesting to read the final analysis of this event.

edit on 10/28/2012 by Olivine because: update pic to show latest aftershock

It is strange that this was a thrust fault. I believe the Queen Charlotte fault is a strike-slip, similar to the San Andreas.

I had to go back and give you a star for that! I am not ready to hop on the wagon yet, but your post came to mind when I saw the quake.
