GFZ have upgraded to 5.7 since then, that is unusual too (GFZ altering)

I have to say that like you I thought they did not alter magnitudes much BUT when I checked on the data that I have from just after the beginning of August I found 139 changes to magnitudes. Here is just October because I can't fit them all in with the restricted posting space we now have

Sorry for the delay. It does not look anything out of the ordinary to me. They often have little swarmy things there and actually it looks as if it was a lot busier in May this year - but that is probably all forgotten in the mists of time.

Page 89 - April 1st had some talk about Nevada. Not sure what it was all about then.

If one looks back into 2010 when dinosaurs walked.......a while ago you will see that actually April 2011 was a much busier month for Nevada quakes. It really makes October 2012 look quite wee.

Hey Puterman!! When you get a chance, will you pipe in on this thread I will link and let us all know what you think about this situation in Canada.

It seems they have been ditching data on some pretty sizable quakes in the past few months.

I look forward to hearing your analysis on this potentially troubling turn of events.

Very simply, I answered your question and here is the link to my answer.

The OP of that thread seems to think he knows better so you can take your pick as to who you believe.

I was going to ignore his insults to TA and his lack of any proof, but I decided to respond.

I got distracted by the frackquakes. But what I was intending to write about yesterday was Atlantic Hurricanes.

As we are learning (my theory was developed in '06) from volcanologists (why is it telling me that's spelled wrong?) today, temperature difference creates the conditions which trigger eruptions. I am convinced that atmospheric pressure changes trigger earthquakes. So, Puterman, I hope your watching the Atlantic and the storm. I'm not watching but I knew they are out there because you can see the microseisms popping up on the east U.S. Coast. I'm expecting that Sveland area to pop again. Probably a couplet. Puterman, I'm wondering if at some point in your watching, you might have enough data to make a scientific discovery.

Nebraska. Anywho. Anyone else notice that these quakes have come in a cluster. Not a vigorous bunching. But, when compared to the last two months, it's been busy.

What a surprise! There's shale containing natural gas in western Nebraska.

The rest of this can be considered tripe and can be ignored. Heck, you can ignore all of it if you want. Because I'm sure some of you think I am a self-indulgent assdonkey. Heck, your most certainly correct.
I can find anything. When I'm full of myself, I think I'm Sherlock Holmes. (even darwinshh) But in reality, I am more chipmunk than sleuth. Or squirrel. I'm just digging like mad because I think that chickadee stuffed a sunflower seed over hear and I can smell it. My obsessiveness is no different than a dog catch a scent. It's nothing amazing. You just lock onto a smell and follow it wherever it goes. Natural gas is odorless. They add the smell of rotten eggs so you no it's there. Oh, I didn't need that smell added. Just it's presence was enough to make my head swell and swoon. We have more than one sense.

Earlier today, my father was looking for his meds. Luckily, he had me around. I found them in the garbage. No, he wasn't throwing them out 'cause he didn't want them. Once, I found my son's tooth which he lost. If you ever wonder why some scientists like looking at tiny things. They're just searching for nuts amongst the dirt.

At the end of the Lord of the Rings, Bilbo asks if he can see the ring one last time.
Does Bilbo have real bad dementia?
Or, did no one tell him about the battle for middle earth?
Please don't answer the question- least not here.

Thanks for that post, made me realize I had missed transferring that Balleny Is/W of Macquarie quake from the main RAS data list when I did an October update yesterday. I missed it because I used mb column to separate the 6+'s out so it was further up the list as it was 5.6mb/6.2Ms.
Thats what comes of just processing data without actually looking at it.
Fixed it now

RAS 6+ April-Oct

On another matter;
I have been pondering your suggestion that when it comes to Mag7+ quakes on the Significant Earthquakes 314-2012 to try and keep to one magnitude type (Mw). Having already done 102 years worth of maps I think I'll stick with anything that looks/smalls/feels like a 7+, after all if you search ANSS you get all sorts of mag types back on the results.
Did a big update on Turkey page too, missed all of September so have changed the layout to Mag3+ only, which I was able to get data for off their Last One Year list ( which BTW only goes back to 25.04.2012 02:28:50
so its not really 365 days worth) Same start date with their Van page.
Turkey May-Oct 2012

RAS I can get older data (manually day by day) but Turkey is a mystery, they don't seem to have a database open to the public after 2008

Kinda short but, Are all these quakes normal? I am using USGS and EMSC. I'm also using www.meteorscan.com... and notice in increase in meteor activity too. Do they go hand in hand?

I've never been in an EQ until I moved to Maine. My first was the one recently outside of Hollis center. 13 miles away lol.

But people were saying they have never experienced one here too.

Is it all normal? (Lol)

Turkey page now includes new map
222BC to 1899 MM Intensity 9+

Not speaking Turkish fluently I'm struggling to navigate their site, seems to be confusion there as to how many days there are in One Year and a database called "1900-2008" that actually has data from 1901 to 2005

Turkey probably has more historic data on earthquakes than anywhere else on the Planet, it just a matter of digging it out.

ETA:
and now a map for 1901-2005 Mag 5+
in decending order of magnitude from 7.9, I had trouble with the Turkish dating format, couldn't get it to sort on Excel after I had sorted it by magnitude.
Each tag has all magnitude types Ms, Mw, Md, mb, and ML a fine example to the lazy people at USGS, GFZ and EMSC who put out that "GS" and "M" nonsense, of how it should be done.

my Turkey page
just the google map of 1901-2005

So, Puterman, I hope your watching the Atlantic and the storm.

Reykjanes ridge already got it's first October hit - expect more as the hurricanes come. Sorry TA but it is fact!

OK what you want is in EARTHQUAKE IN BETWEEN MONTHLY BULLETINS 2007-2011

Out of the frame the url is www.koeri.boun.edu.tr...

Each year has what are different areas (I think) DUH!! stupid PuterMan, they are months as these are monthly bulletins, and each is a PDF file. At the end of the PDF file is the list of earthquakes for that year.

This concludes your lesson in basic Turkish for today.

Good luck, you will need it!

its cool how you sort of know what to click on even if you don't understand the non english words, just from experience surfing the earthquake network web sites, I did the same for Japan.

That page with the monthly pdf's is OK, 2007-2011, just got to find 2005-2006.
You can lift the data (copy) paste it into Notepad, then copy and paste that into Excel, then data/text to columns/delimited/space/finish and end up with a nice tidy CSV file for processing into a map

i have never seen that site. how do you interpret the spikes, one went across the width of the baseline to top yellow, what does that mean and where did it break the atmosphere? maybe some of these are making it to the ground and causing booms and shaking? is there a site dedicated to watching this on above top secret, if not, maybe there should be.

Amazing the difference between a programmer and a user. I never use notepad, only Textpad which is a programmers tool and that does not do the job. I also never used Text to Column in Excel - but I do note that does not preserve the empty magnitude columns so you don't know which scale you are getting.

You can probably ignore the email!

just got to find 2005-2006.

I thought the normal historical catalogues covered that?
