US Alone as Israel Condemned in UN Security Council

The United States is being singled out for blindly defending their good friends in Israel. The backlash will probably be minimal, but I thought this was newsworthy. It shows the Israeli influence on American decisions, especially in foreign policies.

FOURTEEN frustrated members of the UN Security Council pointed a finger at the US yesterday for blocking any condemnation of Israel's accelerated settlement construction in Palestinian territory.

In a move that Russia's UN ambassador Vitaly Churkin called historic, diplomats from almost all regional blocs represented on the council stepped to the microphone after closed council consultations on the Middle East to condemn the lack of progress towards a solution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Mr Churkin, the council president, said the frustration over the impasse in Israeli-Palestinian talks spilled out in statements from the four European Union council members, the Non-Aligned Movement, the Arab group and the group of emerging powers that included India, Brazil and South Africa.

Clearly referring to the US, Mr Churkin said dismissively that one delegation believed things would miraculously sort themselves out on their own. "The call for bilateral negotiations without preconditions would seem a normal thing to ask for," he said.

But Mr Churkin said the Palestinians were overwhelmed militarily and in every other way by the Israelis and without preconditions they would not get a fair deal in negotiations.

The diplomats - including key US allies in Europe - also criticised the council's failure to take action against escalating violence by Israeli settlers and urged a speedy resumption of Israeli-Palestinian negotiations.

Britain's UN ambassador Mark Lyall Grant, also speaking for EU members France, Germany and Portugal, said: "Israel's security and the realisation of the Palestinians' right to statehood are not opposing goals. On the contrary, they are mutually reinforcing objectives. But they will not be achieved while settlement building and settler violence continues."

South Africa's UN ambassador Baso Sangqu said settler attacks against Palestinian civilians increased 50 per cent this year and called Israeli settlement construction "the main impediment for the two-state solution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict".

While the US was not mentioned by name, the diplomats' anger was clearly directed at Washington, which vetoed a resolution in February backed by the 14 other council members that would have demanded an immediate halt to all settlement building.

The Obama administration has also promised to veto any Security Council resolution supporting Palestine's bid to become the 194th member of the UN.

Earlier this week Germany responded with anger to Israel's decision to approve construction of more than 1000 housing units on land captured in the Six-Day War. A spokesman for German Chancellor Angela Merkel said the Israeli announcement on Sunday was "a devastating message".

Ms Merkel has made no secret of her anger at Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for failing to advance the peace process and for his approval of Israeli housing construction in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

In February, according to German sources, Mr Netanyahu telephoned Ms Merkel to express disappointment at Germany's support of a UN resolution condemning Israel for its construction in settlements, a resolution vetoed by the US.

"How dare you," Ms Merkel reportedly responded to Mr Netanyahu's criticism. "You're the one who disappointed us. You haven't made a single step to advance peace."

Israel is interested in German support because of Berlin's political weight in the international arena and its direct economic and military importance to Israel.

People from all over are jumping at the opportunity to call out Netanyahu on his hypocrisy and lies. These corrupt politicians need to come up with a better game plan if they plan on fooling the public.

I'll wait for the condemnation to come from an organization that doesn't harbor thieves and liars. If you cant tell, I'm not a fan of the UN. I would rather see the US pull out of that worthless organization. It's pretty much the pot and the kettle.

I have never been a fan of the UN, but they are involved in a lot of important subjects. Their behavior is despicable, the main reason I mention this is because Israel tends to focus on certain aspects of certain resolutions all pertaining to whether or not the resolutions have a positive or negative effect.

Yourself, as an American, has every reason to be sick of the UN and Israel.

So I understand your comment.

oh, cmon, everyone in the leftist cocktail circuit KNOWS Israel = bad, palestinians = good. they all know that previous trades of land for peace have failed but surely if Israel gives up more it might work! not ALL these nations can be tools, stooges, fools that believe what the media tells them, or haters...right?

absolutely they can. I'm just glad that Obama isn't joining them (yet),

Good Israel does not need the United States money, weapons or technology. We are no longer a colonial system, so why act like one.

I wish everyone shared your attitude, in fact, many people do. There is a feeling of helplessness due to the complete stranglehold they have on our lives so everyone is limited in what they can do about it.

That land belongs to the Israelites not Palestine. There was no Palestine until Caesar Hadrian created that nation after the failed jewish rebellion in 135 A.D. and he renamed Israel into Paletine to insult the jews right after he plowed under the ruins of the temple.

No one is saying these non-existant "palestinians" has to leave, but they need to stop whinning about losing what was never theirs to begin with. The Israelites have suffered more than any other people in history, repeatedly enslaved, repeatedly killed, repeatedly rejected since they were driven from the lands God gave them and by God i mean Yah and yes i went there. Arabs shouldn't care either way, these "palestinians" came from jordan and jordan's population is 3/4th palestinian anyway, if they want a state, let them turn Jordan their own country into Hadrian's Palestine.

While theyre giving their land back they can make room on the temple mount and allow the israelites to rebuild their temple, 2000 years of not being able to fully embrace your religious heritage has to be hard on them. Muslims do not have to give up the Dome of the Rock, the dome makes no difference as the temple existed out in the desert in a tent roaming from one place to the other for 40 years.

As for the U.S. part we will always support them, until such a time comes as they no longer need our help and the sooner they get their lands back the better. The final destruction of that ancient Roman Empire will not be completed until Palestine is no more and Israel is made whole again.

I always respect your posts because you're knowledgeable on certain subjects and have great opinions to share, but you just went and threw out a perfectly good post by throwing in an intangible fairy tale. Sure, I respect religion, and its beliefs, but to revolve current day events around make believe scripture from ancient times that has been manipulated and rewritten countless times is just crazy.

I'm not bible bashing here, it's just you can't throw that argument in a debate like this and expect us to accept it as fact.

Its all about beliefs. It always has been and it always will be. What men believe will always be relevant to what actions they take and how they think and the goals they persue and this is evident in everyday life for all people across the entire world. Heritage does matter, it is how we establish who we are, who we were and where we came from and ultimately where we will be in the future.

Beliefs will always be relevant, they are what dictates our actions from one moment to the next.

Your general opinion is fine, but.

Many people simply don't believe in the Caesar Hadrian idea.

Some alternative theories suggest that historians wrote that part long after the "events" may or may not have taken place.

Rome had a variety of "historians" and many may not have actually existed as real people.

The nay-sayers claim no proof exists to confirm the claims as we see them today.

Ancient Rome had scribes and administrators that handled most of the "paperwork".

Look at today's "history" being mangled by the "scribes and administrators" we have today.

What do you think history will look like 200 years from now ?

Genuine truth or mangled lies ?

Maybe someone here can show us all where the original writings are ?
(if they even exist).

Many scholars are doubting that Judea and possibly Israel itself even existed at the level we consider today.

Verification of ancient history is not easy.

I don't know what I believe, but I know today's writings are not accurate.

If "Palestine" was "created" in 135 a.d., where did they get the name ?

"Islam" supposedly did not exist then.

And of course, the question remains;

Why was there so much "hate" for the ancient "Jews" ?

Sounds eerily like a bible prophecy I once read, doesn't it?

You have it all mixed up Mr. religion.

Revelations 3:9

I will make those who are of the synagogue of Satan, who claim to be Jews though they are not, but are liars--I will make them come and fall down at your feet and acknowledge that I have loved you.

Ring any bells? Coincidence?

No one is turning their eyes against Israel, instead the world is waking up for what they really are. Israel will be the cause of its own demise.

I have been saying it all along. The worst terrorist organization operational currently is the US/ISRAEL one. And they seem to listen to no-one.

This is what happens when one side gets so strong that the rest of the international community has nothing on them.

They should be expelled from the UN and have heavy sanctions placed against them -- make 'em taste the same venom they are spewing towards countries such as Iran and N.Korea.

Yesterday the US assembly held a moment of silence in memory of Kim Jong Il.
A leader who starved, put in concentration camps, tortured and murdered hundreds of thousands of his own people.

The UN is an irrelevant biased corrupt body that should fade from the pages of history.
The UN and your obsessed fetish like whining towards Israel, is therefore irrelevant as well.

Ever since the 70's, my Dad (the original Conspiracy Theorist!), has said this is how it all ends. This is where Revelations begin. The US will stand alone against the world in defense of Israel, and although the entire world changes, and a new world begins, the US/Israel will be triumphant in the end.

That's how he has always seen it. This is just more signs of the same ol stuff. The world is speeding toward a final conclusion, and for those that believe in other versions of spirituality besides Christianity/Islam there is still plenty of evidence that the world is speeding toward a paradigm shift, enlightenment, or whatever you want to call it. I think all forms of spirituality can agree that we are about to make a major transition, and it won't come easy, and it will include a lot of death and strife.

True. Politics by profession and practice requires a lot of lies and theft

Basically its a battle of the Crooks when we refer to UN vs US or Russia or EU etc.

Well gosh. We should just ban settlement building and shove it to em, those vagrant israeli thugs. They never done anything for world peace. They deserve whateva' they got comin'.

Glory be to Allah! Allah is Great!

May death and destruction befall those who oppose him!

/sarcasm off

Before ya'll jump on hte bandwagon to condemn Israel, make sure you know what's in the bandwagon. There might be a buncha Jihadists in there with bombs in their rectum. Everything will be fine until you realize it's too late. For a moment, you'll try to tell everybody to run. But in the next, you'll see a flash and then nothing. There're no second chances in this world.

You don't understand how dangerous these people are and how hard they're to catch. You may think Israel is a si** f***, but you don't know a Jihadist. They're much worse.

They don't care for human life. They don't even care for their own. So mad are they with religious feeling and imagined vengeance that they would kill their own children. Their religion gives them the green light to lie if it benefits them. So there's no warning. A flash, and... nothing.

See, that's how great Allah is. Allah makes things blow up. Makes baby Jesus cry.
