Boehner's office cuts off C-SPAN cameras as GOP takes verbal beating

www.rawstory.com
As Rep. Stenny Hoyer (D-MD) attempted to call for a vote to extend a payroll tax cut to middle class and working Americans, his Republican colleagues adjourned the House and walked out of the chamber. And if that weren’t odd enough, it got even stranger: As Hoyer railed against them for failing to help working Americans, footage from C-SPAN went silent, then cut away.

Of course they would cut the feed. What do you think this is, a free country?

All sarcasm aside (and I actually had to stop and think for a minute if that actually qualifies as sarcasm, or just realism; scary thought), perhaps I've not been following the issue closely enough, but did they extend the tax cuts for the wealthy? And at the same time let them expire for everyone else?

If so, then saying that they are bought was kind of you. I'd call them something else.

Good points.. all of them...

I don't believe we are bought wholesale.. there are members of each party which still stand up for the people.. only to be shut down like Boehner did today....

It's a real shame that the majority don't really care about the people at all...

Did you see the video of this? EPIC.

That was Rep. Mike Fitzpatrick, R-Pa at the podium, the same Fitzpatrick who, along with newly elected Rep. Pete Sessions, R-Texas SKIPPED their swearing-in ceremony - and managed to vote before being duly sworn-in members of Congress back in January. Could Boehner possibly be any worse at his job?

"This morning, Speaker Pro Tempore Michael Fitzpatrick (R-PA), under orders from Speaker Boehner, refused to allow Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer to speak on the floor and ask for unanimous consent to bring up the Senate bipartisan compromise to extend the payroll tax cut. Whip Hoyer and Congressman Chris Van Hollen are continuing to try to offer the Senate compromise even though Republicans walked off the floor. Once again, Republicans are risking a tax increase on 160 million Americans and the loss unemployment benefits for those who have lost their jobs through no fault of their own."

Who Fitzpatrick is:
Two House GOPers skip swearing-in, vote anyway

This is the attitude from the GOP any more, the real conservatives have lost their spine to these charlatans.

How do we know those two representatives are not impostures picked off the street?

I mean if you can't be bothered to swear-in before voting, what can else be expected?

UNREAL!!!

2 party system is totally garbage the gop like the rich and the democrats like the poor...neither one of these parties give a crap about the middle class...regardless of which party is in the news for "not working with the American people" they both could care less and remember that. There are a few good people from both sides but they are hidden in the jungle of lies coming from Congress.

Yes, and its very sad and concerning that it is a MAJORITY.

I use to think "now that couldn't be possible, maybe a few are bought and paid for, only a few purposely don't represent their people, i mean it can't be all of them can it??"

and like i said, sadly it is a ton of them.

You do realize dems wanted a clean bill on the tax alone for the year extension, but the Nordquist loving tax cutters in the republican party just kept adding unrelated amendments like the pipeline, don't you? The two month version was passed as a compromise to keep the tax from rising on Jan. 1. But hey don't let the facts get in the way of your bloviating.

I also seem to remember Rs getting all their panties in a bunch when dems did this to them. So if the Rs were the responsible and grown up party, they would not be playing such childish games as the dems, right?

Exactly, they have been working on this for months in the Senate. Both sides wanted the full year. The Republicans added the pipeline into the debate along with how to pay for it. That drew out the debate on the bill for months. When they realized they wouldn't be able to come to an agreement they worked out the 2 month bill. Once passed the house republicans back tracked and said no.

This is a direct reflection on Speaker Boehner's leadership. Either a) he never showed or got approval from the house republicans that they would agree with this before he passed or b) the house republican's told him they would agree to it but than stabbed him the back and said no.

Either way Boehner is not doing well.

You need to check up on the facts regarding this. The Dems want to extend the tax cuts for only two months. The GOP wants to extend the tax cuts for a full year, and by the way so does Obama. It's not the GOP that isn't looking after the little guy...it's the Dems.

Your facts are all twisted. Been listening to the right-wing talk shows much?

The Dems wanted the long term tax cut extension but the GOP effed that all up. Then the Dems wanted the short term tax cut extension while they worked on the long-term tax cut extension, and the GOP managed to eff that up too. Even AFTER the Senate Republicans managed to work out a bipartisan bill, Boehner effed it up.

Just remember you're about to lose another $40 from your paycheck thanks to Mr. Boehner and his GOP cronies.
