" The Iranian embassy in Damascus, in a statement released on Wednesday, confirmed news reports saying that five Iranian engineers and technicians have been kidnapped in Syria and called on the kidnappers to immediately release the Iranian nationals. "

Iranian Ambassador to Syria Mohammadreza Sheibani believes the kidnappers are seeking to apply pressure against Iran to engage in Syria's ongoing Civil War with intimidation and terror tactics.

According to the statement, unidentified armed gunmen abducted five Iranian engineers and technicians, who were on the way to their work, on Wednesday at 6:30 local time in the restive Syrian city of Homs.

The statement also said that the Iranian embassy has been making every effort to obtain information about the fate of the Iranian nationals and called on the Syrian government to take the measures necessary to identify the kidnappers and release the Iranian nationals.

Could be seven or eight according to this source:

Iran's embassy in Syria released a statement regarding the 8 captured Iranians, Mehr reported.

According to the statement, the abduction took place at approximately 6:30. Eight Iranian electricians, five of which are engineers, were abducted by unknown armed group in Syria's Homs city.

Iran's embassy statement said the embassy hopes for the abducted to be released as soon as possible.
