I haven't seen this on ATS or on any of the usual mainstream faces so thought id share this with you all.

As the title states the Russian rocket Soyuz has launched 6 satellites into space.
This rocket was carrying 1 satellite for Chile named FASAT Charlie accompanied by 5 French satellites.

According to Chilean officials the satellite will support various public policies in various fields, including the mapping of irrigation trenches for emergencies, droughts and natural disasters, agricultural management, care of natural resources and the examination of diverse natural phenomena, such as the retreat of glaciers and the advance of deserts. Fasat Charlie is also the most advanced satellite of all the South American countries.

From the links i have read i have seen no mention of what the 5 french satellites are being used for.

Personally i have been wondering why France seems to have a lead ( along with Germany ) in the running of the EU but now this sort of rings afew bells if you know what i mean.

If anyone has any info on what the 5 French satellites are doing do tell.

The first link is from Nov. 2006, it mentioned NASA plans to launch Kepler in 2008. The second link was to be launched from an Ariane 5 rocket, the 3rd link was bad.

I believe I won't believe those sources.

Shouldn't this be in Space Exploration?

I don't consider 'in orbit' to be 'outer space'.

They're spy satellites, so I shouldn't tell:

Nevertheless, wear your space suit if you go outside.

What possible good can a satellite do.
Its a scam like GlobalStar and Iridium.
Some one just got scammed.
And there is nothing good about outer space either as Tesla once said.
Will their satellites quit if the cost of radiation hardened parts wasn't paid for.
It all started with Bell and the telephone when an engineer was set to
claim the rights from Bell and the company he sued.
Its the Engineers who just want to build these things.
I saw a PBS video on Declassified Sputnik and it was terrible.
I just wanted to get to the part about all the missile launch failures due to
inadequate gyros. I just got to the rocket chamber lies and left.
Well the gyro engineers went on strike for better benefits and retired early as
the government finally bought the updated drawings and went to a cheaper
plant on the other coast. The video said the Russians did us a favor,
yeah the engineers. If I recall right the missile gyros were from a WWII plant
that made torpedo targeting equipment. Hey subs to ICBMs we got the
market covered.
