Research will first be carried out on mice but Dr de Grey predicted human trials within 10 years.

But Professor Alan Trounson, head of stem cell sciences at Monash University, dismissed the idea as wishful thinking.

"I'm not necessarily impressed that this is going to happen within the time frame he suggests," Prof Trounson said.

Prof Trounson said he expected average life-spans to keep increasing slowly in line with medical improvements.

Extend life indefinately.....The dream of immortality realised.this treatment of course would only be made available to the rich and powerful.If freely available there wou;d be a serious over population problem.

The only way I will agree with extending my life span is if I am able to stay young and feel young, what is the use to live to an old age if you are going too sick and disable, that will mean that others will have to care for you.

My grandfathers die at 102 and he expended only one year in death bed. Before that he was able to move around.
