Syrian rebels kill 27 soldiers in south

www.reuters.com

Army deserters killed 27 soldiers in southern Syria on Thursday, an activist group said, in some of the deadliest attacks on forces loyal to President Bashar al-Assad since the start of an uprising nine months ago.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the clashes flared in the southern city of Deraa, where protests against Assad first erupted in March, and at a checkpoint east of the city where all 15 personnel manning it were killed.

This spike in violence from both sides lately is going to cause a few different things to happen. First I believe the pro-Assad forces will be ordered to increase the use of force, even more than they have already used.

I have a feeling that many more soldiers will defect which will cause the people still loyal to Assad to get real nasty in a last grasp to hold Assad's power. Which will lead to either a civil war much worse than what we've seen, or NATO/Arab intervention, or maybe all of those put together.

This will probably end up being way worse than Libya due to the higher population density.

Good for them! They have been through hell. It's extremely sad to watch the horror video's of what is going on over there. Hopefully Turkey or someone (not NATO) steps in to cease it all or intervene.

Reading the article it seems like the West and Russia might be negotiating a plan together...? Did I read that correctly

The last country Syrians would want involved is Turkey. Too much bad history between the two.

Syrians aren't very fond of the previous Ottoman Empire.

Syrian Observatory for Human Rights is an Non-Governmental Organization (NGO)

www.facebook.com...

.. "forces loyal to President Bashar al-Assad" type sentences are pure propaganda. Are US troops called "forces loyal to the obama regime"?.. cops known as "obama forces"?.

27 people were violently killed, murdered.. but thankfully our government Non-Governmental Organization is here to put this slaughter into "proper" double think perspective... the murderers were actually good guys who displayed virtue by deserting the Army.

Then, in a patriotic display of bad-assness, in the name of "freedom"... these "rebels" summarily slaughtered 27of their former brothers in arms.... for the crime of being "loyal", whatever that means, to the boogie-man de jure.

If that happened in the US, suspects would be called all kinds of names.. home grown terrorists, AWOL traitors from the occupy tea people party of the right left.. linked to illegal alien drug dealing militia who delved in child porn.. lol

..meanwhile the 27 felled troops would be coined as "heroes", CNN would go 24/7 with heartwarming stories & antidotes of the funny brother who made everyone laugh, the loving father whose crying kids know daddy died for "freedom".. one thing they would never be called are "forces loyal to obama"

Yeah it's nice to see people fighting a corrupt regime.. but .. you have to also consider as violence increases the civilian death toll will accelerate rapidly. Even more so if outside forces get involved.. Syria is shaping up to be a Proxy warzone.. Iran and Russia have supplied weapons and support to Syria while NATO is contemplating throwing support behind protesters and deserters...

Under Assad's father the last major social upheaval resulted in 40,000+ civilian deaths. A civil war in Syria would result in even more deaths, and likely spill into normally sound nations like Jordan and Lebanon..

America is not an authoritarian regime, therefore saying forces loyal to Obama would not make sense, saying forcs loyal to Assad does. If Obama decided to became an authoritarian dictator and troops supported him we would then say forces loyal to Obama.

There is a war, Syrian forces loyal to Assad are killing civilians, these soldiers deserted and truck back, that's war not murder. The crime of being loyal means you do what you are told, including killing civilians that desire more freedom.

Way to misconstrue the facts to support your agenda though, I give you 7/10.

..lol.. say what?!.. not a what?.. defined:
www.thefreedictionary.com...
Noun 1. authoritarian regime - a government that concentrates political power in an authority not responsible to the people.

Looks like the post 9/11 US govt is an "authoritarian regime".. lol..unless you're suggesting the fed govt is responsible to the American people?.. baahahawaaaha!! suuuuuuure.

Ergo US troops & police should be re-coined "forces loyal to obama"... eh? US forces are are loyal, no? the average troop will go 1000s of miles from home to kill strangers because obama commands it.. police will shut down protests govt officials call "unlawful assembly" .. blind loyalty IMO.

I see this incident as a possible murder with 27 victims.. murderers are bad guys. Murder being the unlawful killing of a human being with malice aforethought.. ref Calif 187PC.

Syrian kids join the armed forces for similar reasons many US troops do: misplaced sense of patriotic loyalty, under the guise of "serving the nation"... maybe for the illusion of great benefits. They're no more "loyal" to some elitist stranger than US troops are.. if the US Marines were re-defined "obama loyalist forces" tasked with "serving obama".. nobody would join, as a mater of fact the Army would probably attack them as disgraceful..lol.. rightfully so.

I think there is no acceleration in Syrian problems , unless Turkey take the big step.

But I think Turkey already has received the warning.
